Default Smart Phones for noobies.....

Got my first smart phone a couple of weeks ago - Iphone 4. My wife and I each got one at the same time. Funny thing is - she is like a magnet to intuitive technology. It hasn't taken her long to dive in. The owners manual is like 250 pages on-line...Ugh.

So...car guys....What are the best apps for us on these things?

Also...anybody played Angry Birds? Dang...you can get stuck in never-never land with that app at your fingers! LOL

Any tips or tricks a noobie needs to know?

By the way...my old "dumb phone" did a MUCH better job of just making and taking calls. I think the phone function on this unit is terrible - too many swipes and touches to just make a call. Although the voice feature is cool.

You'll get used to it and will wonder why you didn't get a smart phone sooner at some point. You're right in that a "normal" phone could be seen to be "easier" for just taking calls, but that's about it. I have over 379 contacts in my phone, most with multiple numbers, which are all wirelessly synchronized with my work environment. And they include email addresses, and email of course. Being able at the drop of a hat to contact anybody I need, call or email them, know who is calling me, priceless. That doesn't even consider keeping track of my calendar, being able to look up online what I DON'T know...

As for the phone part of the iPhone, the worst part for me is that when you're on a call it's too darn easy to accidentally hit the "red hang up" button on screen. I typically lock the phone if I'm going to be on a while.

I have an iphone and the phone part is the least impressive part. Once you get the features figured out you will wonder how you made it without your smart phone.
The number apps that are available are astronomical, some are good and some, not so much. Be sure to read the reviews on them.
As far as games go....I like Fastlane Street Racing.
There is a Paypal app that sends you a text whenever someone sends you money. My bank even has an app, which makes it easy to keep track of things on the run.
I wish I would have had this phone years ago.

I love my iphone 4! had it since the first day it came out!

need for speed its kinda cool but i really dont play racing games as much. if you belong to some different forums they might have an app like F150forum.com for instance has one that i belong too.

Pandora radio is hands down the best app ever! Photo shop express is kinda cool and photobucket.

Just gotta try different apps and see whats works!

also make sure you have a case!

Olive Tree bible app
The Jalpoy Journal, the HAMB message board

Craigspro, craigslist app
Red laser, a bar code reader that you can find the best price for something
I handy carpenter, can set up angles and a plumbob and stuff
Dynolicious, a "pocket dyno" and 1/4 timer and stuff
G-Tac pro, a lap timer and G meter
Harrys Pro Lap Timer, hadn't used it but heard good reviews
Midomi Soundhound, a music "search" app that can find a song or artist by singing or typing or holding it up to the speaker.
