Default T56 install

About to begin the install of my LS1/T56 install on my 67 camaro. Any tips on shifters models, easy floor cutting, etc. My car was a previous column shift auto. Thanks.

Default Engine Mounts and Trans type??? Stock Interior???

Might need to monkey around with the shifter location. Engine location (can be modified with engine mounts, most don't change that dimension unless you want to move the engine rearward), type of T56 (standard or Magnum) and the type of interior (stock console vs bare trans tunnel vs custom interior) will all make a difference. And you will need appropriate trans cross member, given the location of the engine. No easy answers here without more info.

Personally, I'm using a LS1 and T56 for a 1999 Camaro, and I'm swapping the '99 Camaro dash and console into my 1969 Camaro. The shifter is a PRO-5.0 that came with the T56. The shifter post is about 4 inches too far forward in the car for my set up, so I will need to relocate it with an off the shelf aftermarket solution, or custom brackets, or a "bent handle" shifter (the shifter that came with the T56 is straight), or some combo of the above. Most of the parts I needed for the conversioin came off the donor 1999 Camaro. I will need a bracket for the hydraulic clutch, which doesn't come off the 1999. Best price I've found is the DSE unit from Rick's Camaros.

I've heard that the T56 Magnum shifter location is 2 inches farther rearward than the standard T56, and with just a bent handle shifter, will fit a stock first gen Camaro. I thought Hurst had an off the shelf solution in an entire kit, depending on your needs, and should not require major modification the transmission tunel and shifter hole in a stock console, I've heard there are a few mods required, though all mods get covered with the stock console. Depending on the transmission cross member used, mods can be virtually nothing to cutting holes in the transmission tunnel so look around and call the vendor for info/support before buying.

Also, are you planning to use mechanical clutch or Hydraulic, electronic spedometer or mechanical (may require a transmission tailshaft swap...), and don't forget about mods to the drive shaft/input shaft depending on what came out of the car.

Default T56

I have a complete Speedtech suspension front and rear, and the normal(non-magnum) T56. I believe I have the original shifter but want to buy the right package the 1st time. I sent an email to American powertrain but got no reply. I guess I should maybe call them..Thought I would get a return email from them.

You may have to be patient with them. Took about 2 weeks to get a reply when I contacted them for a quote.

Don't know if this helps you.......in my 69 Camaro I'm running a T56 Mag with Hurst Blackjack shifter and offset bracket for shift handle which locates it in the stock console position.

Hurst Drivelines has been very prompt through the entire process.

Here's the cut I had to make for vertical clearance:

The cover for the cut:
