Default MAF parameter question

Im getting ready to fire my ls7 and the ECU was initially prepared with parameters to run an LS2 MAF. I installed a blade LS7 MAF and also had to change the harness connector pin configuration, If I fire the engine will it idle, Im just not sure how much the ls2 parameters will effet the fueling?
Engine has never been fired so I would like to know what to expect, Dont own a copy of hp tuners so IM stuck. Any clue?
Thanks Rich

MAF transfer tables vary a bunch. I find lots of installation problems that make poor MAF performance due to turbulent air. Try unplugging the MAF and see if the VE table is close enough to keep the car running. You may need to find a way to get live data on your car so you can see what's really happening.

The LS2 and LS7 MAF tables are very different and it will need to be changed to run properly. As mentioned previously, it may run off the VE with the MAF unplugged, but then the IAT will not be operational.

Also, the LS7 MAF really needs a good straight length of tubing, preferably at least 8" or so, coming into the MAF and then at least 4" exiting. These keeps the airflow through the sensor as smooth as possible.

One other thing, the LS7 MAF sensors base configuration is based on about 4 inch tube that the air is traveling through as it passes the sensor. Going to anything more then a 1/4" difference in diameter will really throw off the base numbers. Even an 1/8" difference will make a decent change is calibration.

I suggest finding someone who can put in a good base program for you and save yourself a lot of aggravation later.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike,

I think this will work as far as the tubing goes, theres about 7 inches before th 22 deg bend going to the filter and the intake side is more than 8 inches the tubing and housing is 4 " . The sensor is a powermax, they have an MAF table on there website, the interesting thing is the numbers are the same for the ls2 as they are for the ls7(IM confused). I was told that the actual sensor is a stock ls7 blade type.

Any chance I could send you my ECU and a list of mods to my ls7(katech torquer cam and springs) and you could down load some numbers in to it, to get me close. I purchased the ecu through speartech(e38 I think). I will gladly pay for your services.

Do you see any problems with this set up:

Thanks Rich

Hi Rich,

I want to say they made a mistake adding the 2006 LS7 to the 05-06 GTO table. Maybe call them and find out for sure. I am also curious as to why they have the sensor so far out of the airstream as all other sensor with this LS7 type sensor have the sensor sunk much deeper into the housing. It may or may not make a difference.

One other thing that may or may not make a difference is the bend just before the MAF sensor. I like to have at least 8 inches of straight heading to the MAF but the bend is not to bad and may be just fine.

You mention that you have an E38 from Speartech. What model and year vehicle is it programmed for?? John does great work by the way. I can certainly check the ECM and make changes for a base tune. I generally charge $200-250 depending on what all is needed. I would also like a good run down of what all is done to the engine as well as what injectors and fuel pressure.

Let me know.

No problem Jody, I try to help when I can come up for a little air from the shop :-)
