Default 1968 firebird 355 pontiac project

hey, new guy here, snagged a 1968 firebird with a pontiac 350 and a ****ty saginaw 4 speed....

the motor is a mystery build. all i know is that the guy spent 1k machining the heads, has 4.11 gears, and a wild ass cam in it and will knock on anything under 93 octane. It hauls ass. Needs a TON of body work. First thing i did was weld in some 16ga floors I made from scratch to hold it all together while i cut out the quarter and patch the other small holes.

I blew the 4 speed and was looking for a suitable replacement to hold that kinda torque. I have 3 mustangs, and was figuring out a way to shoehorn a ford toploader in there when I found out that pontiacs came with a heavy duty close ratio 3 speed if ordered that way. So i set about finding one and bought one for 99 bucks. bellhousing and everything.

anyways, I bought this car in seattle, put tires and oil in it and drove it across the country. stationed in new york, working on it weekends.

so far, 4,600+ gas + 239(shipped for the tranny)+ 400 for tires...

so far 6k or 7k?

so far so good.

yup. spent $250 for current oregon plates and another $600 or so on gas (premium) and drove.... average gas mileage was 14-18 depending on if i kept it below 65. at 63 with good gas on a flat road i was getting 21 miles to the gallon
