Default Safety thoughts?

Anyone have any other learning experience's that might be helpful to all of us doing work on our cars??? My dad seems to have problems with fires!! 3 in the last year on 3 different cars. Corporate aircraft mechanic you would think he would know better.

We have a good fire once a week. Dangers of the job. We also have a few "real bad" accidents annually (last 2 were one of the field mechanics dropped a 115,000 pound excavator on his arm, laid there in pain for 2 hours waiting for help and then there was the 60" bucket that came swinging around into the fuel driver, the bucket was only moving about 5 or 6 miles an hour...threw him about 40 feet). Some hazards are unavoidable while others are careless mistakes.
