Default would like to go super but what r my options ?

heya fellas

im thinking about supercharging my ZZ502 crate engine but am having a hard time finding a blower.

would anyone out there be as kind to list me the available options ?

is 800-900hp possible without changing the engines internals ? as much as i read the engine is capable of handling such power with ease? or is my info wrong?

and will the blower make my car change from a daily driver into something that will make me go ?

I ran a vortech supercharger on a 454 HO crate engine and it made 750hp w/ 6 psi boost. Change the crank pulley to a larger one and it ups the boost to 10 psi at around 900hp

i see many types of blowers on their site , any that u'd recommend ?

a friend of mine runs a custom fit blower on his 7.0 jeep srt8 and is dyno-ing 940HP on wheel so id imagine similar if not bigger numbers ?

isn't there something recommended for the 8.2 zz502's ? something tested and works for daily use ?

940 rwhp isn't going to happen with a crate 502 without some changes. Those motors aren't really built for big boost. That doesn't mean that you can't install a blower on one, you can. But your HP goals are way high for a crate motor to handle for any length of time. At the very least a drop in compression with blower pistons/rings, probably better rods or at least a rod bolt swap, blower cam with the correct spring swap in the heads. Not sure how good the heads are on those engines, at least on the exhaust side. For 900+ HP I would be swapping the heads also, actually I would build a forced induction engine from the beginning rather than trying to make a crate motor live at those power levels.

Now if you were looking for 650-700 hp that's a different story, but expecting 940 rwhp is asking too much of that engine in it's crate form.

You are probably going to want to start with an aftermarket block like Dart or World. The crate 502 blocks just don't have the cylinder wall thickness to survive long with huge HP numbers. Least not reliably for very long...

Your buddies 7.0 liter srt8 is running all aftermarket parts, built for boost I'd bet

I did this same research a few years ago. We ended up going with a stroked LS3, but in the end I found adding a set of AFR heads and a cam you could get to almost 700 NA horsepower and gobs of torque. If you want to stick with the 502, drop the blower idea and contact Lewis Racing Engines. He can set you up with the right package of heads and cam. Good Luck

Jody is spot on. Better flowing heads with the right valves/beehive springs (ss intake/inconnel exhaust), blower pistons and rings, comp ratio +/- 8:1, a good set of connecting rods, a high perfromance hydrualic roller valve train set up, a blower cam, high tollerance block machining, and - if it were me - a better crank built for the amount of HP you plan to make. 900 hp on the dyno is just a number. By that I mean you could possibly make that slapping a correct sized blower and lots of boost PSI, but the thing will never live and that's an expensive mistake!

Good luck with it either way you go...!

I did recently finished building an blown 525 cid big block chevy engine.

Started with new World product Merlin III tall deck block. allround APR studs and also an engine bolt kit from ARP.

With all new parts.

Owner wanted a bullet proof engine so we went for billet 4.5 stroke crank and billet H-rods, custom Ross-pistons and custom Comp Cams hyd. roller.

ON top we did get a pair of Darts Pro1 325cc, not the cnc versions, did nothing to them but check that they where okey, 1.7 rockers, Weiand 8-71 and two blower series 850 cfm Demons.

Msd pro billet dist and BTM 6 box. Meziere electric 55gal waterpump.

As you can see, nothing super special and we did get 736Hp and 1063nm/783ft/lbs in engine dyno with just 0.55 bar = around 7psi of boost using our higher octaine 98e street gasoline. We got e10 (thats 95oct with max 10% ethanol) and 98 here. We didnt have any other pulleys with us in dynosession so no more boost but we can go up to 1.5 bars/21psi with boost and that gets around 1300Hp and 1500Nm/1105ft/lbs. But you know this: Roots is one big heat pump so better stay away from big boost.

This way the engine will last for many summers on street use.
The dyno guy sayd that it will last for 10 years if we dont lift the boost level.
