Default That part you always see but can never find when you need it....

Ok guys... I'm racking my brain and wearing out Google here...

I need a remote mount oil filter adaptor with a built in thermostat bypass. Preferably 3/4-16 with the two lines in one side and two lines out the opposite side. I swear I've seen them before flipping through catalogs and such but now that I need it I can't seem to find one with a thermostat built in- Except a Greddy model that has a 90* line layout that wouldn't work.

I've have found remote mount adaptors from every major brand- all without thermostats. I've found separate oil thermostats. I've found sandwich mount thermostatic oil cooler adaptors that wont work in this application.

Anybody know of one?

I think Perma-cool makes something like that?

Try canton or earls.

From what I can remember I've been through at least:

Earls
Permacool
Derale
Transdapt
Moroso
Flexalite
Canton

I've even started calling to make sure I haven't missed it online. I can't believe no one makes this!

Try the link below for one made by Hardin Marine. I think the sections can be clocked to give you the 180 degree-phased, 2 in/2 out configuration. The brackets are designed to be mounted to the head, so it may not be exactly what you are looking for. The one from Greedy is a nice piece, but the inlets/outlets are 90 degrees apart.

No luck on CV products and although that hardin marine setup looks pretty nice it also looks too big for the area I have to work with.

Thanks for the help guys- I guess I'll be asking around for it at SEMA next week.

I had no luck finding one that was reasonably elegant and ended up using a remote Mocal high-temperrature thermostat. CV makes a remote as well.

Even with a thermostat the oil is too cold for the street. Thermostats bypass some oil through the cooler at all times, so on cold days the oil does not get very warm. I may experiment with a three-way valve to totally bypass the cooler to see how much it helps.

Purely for the sake of discussion and/or debate, has anyone considered controlling the airflow through the oil cooler as a means of controlling oil temperatures? It was (and still is) a popular concept with aircraft (P-51, for example). They use cowl flaps on the air exit nozzle of the air cooler. The effectiveness of an oil cooler is proportional to the temperature differential between the oil and the cooling medium (air) and the pressure differential between the front and rear face of the cooler. No air flow equals no pressure differential -- hense no cooling. In its crudest form, its like putting a piece of carboard in front of the oil cooler when you don't need lower oil temperatures. I just finished building an elaborate air management system for my oil cooler (ram inlet, diffuser in front of the cooler, and constricting outlet nozzle exiting through a low pressure side vent) which is condusive to adding an internal, non-obstrusive and non-visible "cowl flap" to control the airflow. I haven't added the flap yet, as I'm not convinced that low oil temperatures will be a problem on a high compression big block that will see mostly track use, with limited street time. I have avoided oil thermostats because I am not fond of their multiple sharp internal bends that restrict oil flow. Any thoughts from you engineers?
