Have these been modded at all for higher lift cams? I think I read that OEM Vortec heads can't handle lift above the high 400's without a small amount of machining and nicer springs...?

No machining, just new springs.
For about $125, you can use LS6 springs and comp's 787 retainers for higher lift cams.

Not above .480 according to the general. I have used some cams a bit higher than that with no issues.

Id make you an offer on these but you wouldnt like it , so free bump.
