Default Dupont Black G9900N VS 99n

I did a lot of research choosing a black for my 69. For various resons, I chose DuPont's single stage G9900N factory pack as I was told it has a touch of blue to it, and is less "muddy" than other DuPont blacks.

Unbeknownst to me, our paint supplier was out of the factory pack, and was going to take longer than normal to get, so either the supplier, or my builder decided to change to mixing the formula for 99N, which is basically just 805J toner. My builder ended up painting the first series of small panels with 99N, when I became aware of the color change. Don't know who, my builder, or the paint supplier made the decision to use the other color.

My question is this: Are any of you familiar with the difference in color between these two shades of black? We are early enough in the paint process to sand the black off of the already painted panels, but will obviously take more time and money. My builder wants to use the 99N as he thinks I (and no one else) will ever know the difference.

I will have a ton of money in this paint job, and want it done right, but need some third party advice.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill, Yes there are differences in black as funny as that might sound. First thing, take the 99N parts outside to see if you like that shade of black. If you like it then go with that. Don't look at any color inside as the type lighting makes a dramatic difference in how it will look. Next, I would make a trip over to my Dupont supplier and have them show you both formulas for each paint code. You will be able to see the difference between the two by the amounts/tints of the various materials they add to each color. A third option is to have them custom tint the black to your liking.

Good luck

I ended up having the shop paint a panel with both. One side 9900N and the other with 99n. Really couldn't tell the difference to tell you the truth. However when I took it outside, and looked the the reflection of the sky, I thought I could see that the sky was ever so slightly more blue in the 9900N. Our Dupont rep described the 9900N as being slightly more blue and a little less muddy than 99N.

The 99N is esentially only 815J black toner and nothing else.

The 9900N is their factory pack black, and they do not release a code for this.

I went with the 99N as they had already painted the doors and a few other pieces.
