Default Flush Back Up Lights

Has anyone done anything interesting with back up lights on a 69? Don't want RS style or any in my tail lights. Thought maybe about flush mounting a set from a 2010 in place of where the RS ones go. But that requires more fabrication than it looks. Even thought about flush mounting some white LEDs in the bumper, but have been told they won't do much. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bill

I have no pictures but we plan on using the super bright LEDs in the licence plate lighting area. The LED's are directional so you do 2 down towards the licence plate then 4 pointing straight back. If done properly you should not see them.

LED's come in different brightness levels. Not sure why someone told you it would not work. Theres so much room under that bumper.

Thanks for the reply Vince, I called a place that makes flush mount LED tail lights for street rods and they didn't recommend them for backup lights as they don't illuminate enough of an area to see where you are going. I've seen a replacement for backup LED with numerous bulbs, is that what you are referring to? Not sure if I understand how you are installing them in the license plate area without being seen. Can you elaborate?

Hi Bill,

The back up lights are more to warn the people behind you that you are backing up. Stock backup lights suck if you needed them for illumination. At least the ones on my 69 are.

The stock license plate lamp housing that sits in the bumper can be modified to house a full row of LEDS, I plan on having 2 to shine down on the plate then 4 to be aimed rearward. Something that would be very visible.

Its not necessarily flush but hidden. You can even put a nice row under the corner of the bumper if illumination is your goal.
Shoot me an Email and I can send you a few resources.

Vince
