Default 66 fastback project

Here is a little info on my car, enjoy! Let me know what you think.

Bought my 66 fastback when I was 15, it was my first car believe it or not. Nightmist blue 66 fastback 2+2. The original 289 was long gone when I got it. It had a 1970 302 2bbl in it when I got it and it didn’t last that long afterwards because the oil pump failed.

Then

Now
This is the most current picture I have of the engine bay.

87 GT 5.0 roller block with complete rebuild
Trick Flow stage one cam
New dual timing chain and gear
Cran's 1:6 Roller Rockers
Edelbrock Air-Gap intake
Edelbrock 500cc 4 barrel carb
Tri-Y headers
Rebuild 93 GT-40 heads
8mm wires
Flowmaster exhaust 40 series
Aluminum Cobra air cleaner
3" tall Cobra valve covers
3 core radiator
Moroso front sump oil pan

power brakes
dual master cylinder
CSRP disc brake kit
all new front suspension

Replaced the edelbrock with a Holley 650 double pumper. 10-12mpg!

added Raydot mirrors recently too

I recently finished up the Shelby drop, installed high performance coil springs and the Shelby quick steer kit. With the new springs and the drop itself, the car handles so much better. Really happy with the stance. Before I left to go back to college, the front seems to have settled at a good 2" drop.

Before

After

Sorry, dirty car.

Need your input. I'm want to put a 9" rear in the car and while I do that I want to redo the rear suspension. I'm leaning towards installing either a Heidts 4 link or a total control products g-bar. Thoughts on either setup or stick with leaf springs?

Heidts

G-bar

Nice fastback I did a 65 fastback a couple years ago and put the heidts 4 link in it its a good kit for the $. then removed it and put in a Chassisworks canted billet 4 bar. either way you go it will definitely be better than the stock leafs.

The Chassisworks 4 bar and Total Control Products g-bar are the same product are they not?

And yeah, I'd like to keep it under or around 3 grand.

Got to come home from college for Easter. Really didnt get to do any work to the car besides clean it up and put a bunch of miles on it. A buddy of mine is a photographer and has been wanting to take some pictures of my car for awhile so we got to do that while I was home.
Still putting together an attack plan on 9" swap and new suspension for this summer.

Its been awhile sine I updated due to school and work.
Went to Ford Carlisle and I picked this up.

'57 Ford 9" small bearing, 28 spline. Basically a straight drop it. I have a posi center section with 3.50 gears.

putting in 5 leaf mid eye leaf springs to drop the rear 1". Also putting on a disc brake kit from getdiscbrakes.com who I saw at Carlisle

Are you still planning on swapping out the rear suspension (besides changing the leafs)? I went through this debate recently, and my choices were between something like the Heidts, a weld in 4 bar kit, and the g-link from TCP. My first inclination was to find a kit that give the early mustang room for some more tire, and mini-tub the car. I lost a lot of steam on that idea since I'm not one for hacking up and welding new tubs into a vehicle (still need to work on my sheet metal skills). The other thing that really got into my head was having the ability to put the car back to original if I ever lost my nerve. The last part of the equation was something that would benefit me on the track. I tend to autocross the car quite a bit, and really wanted something that would allow me to have all the adjustment I would need for the different track conditions/locations. In the end, I picked up the G-link from TCP. They have all sorts of options for the kit to fit your needs... for example I ended up getting the offset lower links, which gives about another 1-1.5" of clearance for more rear tire. The only welding you would need to do is a couple of brackets to hold the cradle in place, and two upper control arm locations on the rear axle.

The car definitely plants itself much better into and out of the corners - compared to the 5-leaf suspension that was in there before. The adjustable links allow the rear axle to be centered under the car (in case you have some chassis variances). It also seems to have much better traction from a dig when the green flag drops. Couldn't be happier with this kit thus far...
