Default Lincoln LS - DD/Family Car?

Well, I thought some of you may have some opinions related to this......

I'm looking to make a change to my DD. I am currently driving an'03 SVT Focus that I bought new, but now that I am dropping my 8 month old daughter off at the sitter every morning, the 2-door Focus is less than ideal. I've tossed around a few different ideas, but have somewhat settled on an upscale sedan such as a Lincoln LS.

I am not dead set on a domestic product, but I definitely lean that way. There are several '04 V8 LS's that are pretty loaded for $13K or less with around 50K miles on them in my area. This seems like a pretty nice car that could be picked up for $10-$12K.

Thoughts???? Anyone have any personal experience, be it good or bad.

Thanks for any help. I know this is a boring topic compared to some of the others on hear, but I thought with so many knowledgeable car guys it would be a good place to ask.

Brandon

On the other hand I had a friend who had one that he racked up well over 200,000 on before he sold it.

Then again, I would only buy an early car with a V6 and a 5-speed, so what do I know!

Shiny Side Up!

Thanks for the feedback. That's an interesting thought on the manual trans. I was looking more at the newer V8 autos, but if they really have serious issues then maybe not.

I'm really just looking for a somewhat upscale 4-door sedan in the $10-$15K range and these seemed like pretty nice cars for the money.

Where they V8 models? Did you have any maintenance issues? My Dad works at a Ford/Mercury Dealer, so I have good access to parts and know several of the mechanics really well. They just don't have a ton of experience with them since they aren't a Lincoln dealer.

I'm not afraid of a few issues here and there, but the electrical gremlins and transmission problems scare me a bit.

It's good to hear that a couple of folks have had good luck with them. How many miles did you rack up on them?

Thanks,

Work at a Ford L-M dealer, there were some known electrical issues and trans problems related to that in the early cars but since worked out...all in all, they're pretty reliable.

I would be looking at the newer one ('03 to '06). I know they fixed a bunch of issues after the '00 to '02 models had a bunch of problems.

Thanks for the info.
