Exclamation 2010 Northeast Rod Run, Oct 2 - Oct. 4

I just figured I'd post this up on here to see if anyone is interested.

I've been setting up this very loosely organized roadtrip for 2 years now, just to hold a lot of us in the northeast over, until the Hot Rod Power Tour can come back this way. The trip goes for three days, with two night's stay in different areas. The first year it had about 15-20 people from four states, and last year it grew to over 40 people from six different states and Canada. This year I already know we have people coming from more different states.

It has had everything from old streetrods, to brand new musclecars. It's mainly about meeting cool people, seeing the sites that the northeast has to offer during foliage season, and of course driving our cars instead of just sitting in a parking lot at a carshow somewhere.

The biggest difference between us and the major organized events, is that we have no formal registration fees, it's much smaller and more manageable, we try to cruise on secondary highways as much as possible, so that we aren't just cruising with the masses on boring interstates, so we get to see more of what nature has to offer while cruising at a laidback pace, and this is all about the people, not about trying to make money.

This year it will be kicking off on Saturday morning Oct 3, at Competition Specialties http://www.competition-specialties.com/home.html, in Walpole, MA. It is basically going to be a MA to NY trip. We will mainly be cruising though the Catskill and Adirondack mountain ranges, with possibly a couple of cool auto related stops inbetween.

This year we have put togther a newer website and forum to get the info out there. It's not much to look at, but it at least it's a great resource for people to get their info, and I won't have to send out a ton of emails to different people, repeating the same stuff over and over, as I have had to do in the past.

the website is http://www.northeastrodrun.com/

If it sounds like something that anyone might have interest in, check out the website, look at some of the pictures from past trips, and sign into the forum. This year, along with past participants, I am hoping to see some new faces.

thanks for reading,

TJ

well Ben, then get your toy roadtrip worthy and have at it this year. If you talk to Pete, he can fill you in on the last couple of year's trips.

While this isn't the be all/end all of road trips, in most people's eyes both years have well exceded expectations, and we have had all good people both years, and to me that is the best part

All the big ones had to start somewhere, it would be cool to get in on it in the early stages. Who knows, I have a perfectly roadworthy car now that might be completely torn apart by then...LOL

As far as the "big ones" go, this has gotten bigger both years, and from the early returns this year, it already has more interest than both the past trips, so who knows how far this thing will go in the future. the first year I really whored it out on quite a few forums, last year I cut back a little, and this year I only posted it on a couple of forums including this one. after the first two trips, it now gets plenty "word of mouth" interest from past participants so I don't have to try as hard anymore. Honestly though, if it grows this year as much as it did last year, I will have to enlist some people to help me next year, but I guess that's a good problem to have, right?

I hear ya about possibly tearing stuff apart, I'd like to take my Camaro again, but last year it sucked on gas and I only got around 8+ MPG for an almost 900 mile round trip. This year I want to at least change my gears (from 3:73 to 3:42) to help a little, or ideally get around to putting in my 700R4 that's been kicking around for over a year now. At least if I don't get to either thing, I always have my GTO that can bang out over 20 MPG all day long

didn't you upset enough people with "fast" cars last year, when they couldn't figure out why they were getting dusted by a "stock" Vette?

We've got our discounted room rates for the first night's stay, so people started booking those rooms this week.

Working on getting rates for Sunday's lodging now
