Default EU import tax on classic cars

You've got to be f*cking kidding me!!!!! The EU government just changed the import tax on vintage cars!!!! We used to pay what came out to about 5% because they were "historic vehicles" under some special article of the EU tax law, now that's gone with a pen stroke. Import tax is now the same as on any other consumer product: 5% tax and 25% VAT (Denmark). For the GT2 that means instead of $4.5k I have to pay $23.5k when they unload the container!!!! This should apply to all EU countries, though most don't have quite the crazy VAT that Denmark does. News just broke on Friday, sure there will be an uproar and something will be worked out, but it looks like the GT2 will stay in CA for a bit longer than planned...

Very sorry to hear about this. It sounds like you get really screwed when it comes to VAT.

The worst thing is that its not a socialist government... its a liberal majority and has been for years....

i didnt know they changed it!... i paid 5% on the impala i imported... ah well i guess ill only buy cars cash and have the value "adjusted" so the tax is acceptable

LOL not many socialist governments in EU, dont worry.
It's a minor technicality in the common EU interpretation of a tax code that has let to major mayhem in our area. And low-balling the Bill of Sale will be a calculated risk; the shipper insures the value of the car from the BoS too. Better hope he doesn't drop the container on the dock!

You said it brother!!
As much as I hate the VAT tax, the "pinheads" are trying to put it into effect in America. It may not be socialist, but that's the direction the great country is going, unfortunately.
