67 Camaro full quarter panels- Goodmark - Lateral-g Forums

Hey, I've got a set of full quarter panels from Goodmark. I've also got a pair of outer wheelhouses as well, also Goodmark. I'm doing one side of the car at a time, in an attempt to have as little of the car apart at a time as possible. I've fit the passenger side wheelhouse and quarter to the car, and I have got to say it is aweful. The quarter does not meet the drip rail up on the sailpanel, it hangs far too low at the trunk drop (~2"), and the lips of the wheelhouse and quarter do not agree. At the front of the wheel opening, the quarter and wheelhouse are way too tight, and prevents the quarter from sliding on completely. At the back of the wheel opening, the quarter lip is as much as an inch away from the wheelhouse lip. Now I know this sounds like the wheelhouse just needs to be moved forward some, but the outer wheelhouse only fits one way. The outer wheelhouse is tight in its 'home'. There is no room for adjustment forward, backwards, or otherwise. Overall the quarter fitment is terrible, at least in my opinion. I'm pretty certain I could get the money back out of the quarters, but the question becomes who do I get new quarters from? Anyone else ever have issues with Goodmark stuff? I thought Goodmark was supposed to be pretty decent, afterall, it comes with a pretty hefty price tag. Part of what scares me here though is that I have a load of other Goodmark metal, including a door shell, trunk to glass filler panel, roof skin, fenders, hood, and header panel. I have already installed a new Goodmark upper dash panel, and that was pretty sucky too, again, in my opinion. Should I try to find some other poor bastard for all this metal, and start my search for better quality stuff? Or am I the only one that has ever encountered this problem? And I know repro. sheet metal is not just gonna jump right on and fit just perfect, but some of this is outrageous. Any help is appreciated (assuming someone has the patience to read this entire rant).

Have you read this thread on camaros.net? It will give you a good idea of what is ahead. Not sure if he used Goodmark parts but I think all aftermarket parts need work.

X2^^^ I have been through this thread. It is a long one but if you are going to skin a whole car it really is worth you reading it.

I've used goodmark parts alot and I've also used the NOS stuff as well. The only difference I see in the two is that the NOS stuff will typically have cleaner lines ( More crisp). It really just takes a lot of time and patience to get either to fit. And by what you've said in relation to how your quarter is fitting I'm pretty sure you just need to spend more time with it. Post some pictures up so we can see what the gaps look like and we can help.

Thanks for the responses, and I checked out that link you guys suggested. I don't know whether to laugh, cry, give up, or try harder. I would laugh because the guy in the link is really really doing some nice work, and he claims to be a first timer for going so deep into a car. I would cry because he seems to be doing WAY better than me on my first time going so deep into a car. I would give up for the afore mentioned reason, maybe I'm not cut out for this stuff (although I refuse to believe it). And then I have the urge to go out and work on mine, just because that guy inspires me.

Anyway, rambling aside, I will definitely get some pics of the ill-fitment. I also have an insane amount of pictures already, far too many for one post. I may put 'em up in the project updates forum area, although I do feel slightly that I'm just not up to the standard of this place. With that said, when I need some motivation, this is the site that I come to. One thing that does keep me from really doing the things I want to do is time. I am a nearly full time employee, as well as a full time student. Basically, my time is limited, and my car is the only thing that keeps me sane. Aside from time, my limiting factor is cash, as school aint cheap. I didn't realize it till now, but I've begun to ramble yet again.

I will get some pictures of the problem areas with the quarter as soon as I can, which will probably be friday night.

Goodmark doesn't make panels. They sell the Dynacorn and Golden Legion brands. It's basically a crap shoot with repro panels. I used Golden Legion panels on mine and were pleased with the fitment. Each panel has it's own problem areas, but they can be fixed. My passenger side quarter took weeks to get it fitting right. I probably removed and installed it 20 times before I got it to the point it wouldn't fit any better. I had to cut, splice, add, and take away metal on it before it fit like I wanted it. It had a lot of little areas that needed tweaking.

Post up some pictures. We'll get you going in the right direction!
