Carbon Fiber Steering Column from Ididit - Lateral-g Forums

Their site says it is "Dipped" Carbon fiber--not sure what that means other than the obvious--that they treat the column like a naked milky way bar and dip it in CF--I'm thinking no, but in the words of my 6 year old "Me not know dad".

Has anyone seen one of these yet? Better yet, anyone installed one and have pictures?

I have to replace my steering column, and this could look nice in my planned interior depending upon how the CF really looks overall on the column. Hopefully they will be at SEMA.

my guess would be it's a faux finish that's applied by having the decal float on a tub of water. as the column is "dipped" into the tub the decal attaches itself to the item being "dipped".....i can't say what carbon would look like as i've never seen it. however the wood grains are usually pretty good.

I've seen a few things done in water transfer, hydro carbon, aqua applique, whatever the latest name for it is... it usually looks ok. Nice and glossy. There is just no way to duplicate the 3D look of the real stuff.
Not saying it is bad, but it does look kinda funky right next to the real deal. The fake stuff usually has a more "showy" look over actual CF to me.

I've had www.hydroillusions.com do a bunch of stuff for me and it's pretty hard to tell the difference.

Actually I handed a dash pod that was done to the Guy's at Rad Rides and they couldn't tell. So in the end it's experience that will get you a great finished product.

I found one single pic on their website, on the home page, it definitely looks like the water transfer.....NOT real C/F.

do yourself and your 6 year old a favor; dont buy any aftermarket column thats not collapsible. theres a reason all the late 60's cars were required to have them, and the aftermarket shouldnt be getting away with it. ididit came out with a VERY nice collapsible column this year (didnt make it in time for their catalog), and it only adds $100 to the total. i think your chest and mine are worth it.

btw, a collapsible intermediate shaft, although nice, is nowhere near the same. it wont help when you hit the column, only when the steering box is pushed towards you.

maybe they can cover the collapsible in the carbon wrap?????

i have to agree....it just doesn't look real. it's not any better than the peel and stick stuff. i have yet to see anything that looks like the real thing. what does it take? i mean with all the technology available these days......
