what's the correct way to coat floorpans/tubs/trunk - Lateral-g Forums

I need some advice on what steps I must do after installing an entire floor and trunk.
I just built some new tubs for my mustang and used some pre primed sheetmetal. I wanted to use this to keep the flash rust to a minimum. I plan to continue using this on the rest of the floor area. Once I grind this primer off at the weld location, what should I put on the bare metal and over the weld? Then what should I coat the rest of the pre-primed surface with(epoxy or self etching)? I am referring to the inside of the car BTW. My intensions are to go over the(whatever primer advised) with dynamat. Meaning that I most likely would not be using filler.

Use the epoxy or self-etching primer over the bare metal.

Travis make sure you use a good weld thru primer. I really like the UPOL brand. With a pre-primed panel what is it primed with? You must scuff all the panels REALLY good before putting more primer on top.

I need to find out on the primer used. As far as laying down new, when is self etching primer used instead of epoxy?

In my humble opinion, never. Epoxy will do everything an etch will but more. And with less possible interaction with later paints. IMO epoxy has taken the place of etch primer. JR
