There were no timing traps like a regular Land Speed Race. This was a non sanctioned LSR with MINIMAL safety requirements. If you had a helmet and long pants you could run any production based car.
The speeds were taken by an officer with a radar gun. To say they were inconsistant would be an understatement. I made about 6-8 passes and the speeds they gave me were over a 35 MPH spread. With a very consistant 1/2 MPH tail wind there is no way my speeds varied that much. I've run at maxton and my speeds were within 2-3 MPH.
They tried different radar guns and tried to guess the calibration by running a police car through at speed in an attempt to verify the accuracy of the radar.
Fastest speed of the day that I'm aware of (and he recieved the trophy) was 220 in a Ford GT with a whipple supercharger. There were a couple fast Supras there that had datalogging indicating over 200. I will start another thread about the event. Here's the in car of the 220 run.
