Good Paint Shop in DFW area? - Lateral-g Forums

I'm still a ways from being ready, but I'd like to start looking for a good shop in DFW to paint my project. Any recommendations?

It will be interesting what you find out, I live in Frisco, and will also be painting two cars within the next year. I certainly would at least like to get what I paid for.

Hey guys I've been doing hard research. Complete Aerokits in Arlington 817-795-1341. Does great work at a great price but tells you up front he will have it 6 months. Mohr restorations in Richland Hills (817) 428-6647 is touted as the best and has several awards for best paint at the car shows. Pricy but not ridiculous and Super quality. Hope this helps.

I tell ya... this is the trickiest part.

A few stories...

Had a 55 Chevy, race car, just needed a hood and trunk lid painted as we eliminated the pinned versions... simple prep and paint black. 2 Weeks turned in to 3 months.

Same painter, 57 Chevy frame up restoration, after a year we had to get the landlord to let us in the building to retrieve it after the the guy skipped town. Luckily it was finished except for some polishing. Why he didn't call us we never found out. Heard he was gunned down a little later...I think there was meth involved.

Had my 98 Buell S1 painted ($1000.00) by a local guy in Saginaw/Haslet, TX. Shop was loaded with some very nice street rod projects. Work seemed good but he seemed just as flaky...turns out his work was good (initially) and yes, he proved to be flaky. Took him almost 6 months to paint a small tank, front fender, fly screen and tail piece. Same factory color red and two silver stripes...simple.

3 months later the tank bubbles. I take it back to him and after 3 more months he just leaves it outside and calls me...basically go screw yourself. There will be a reckoning one day I can assure you.

New painter, nationally acclaimed guy (I'll leave un named now) has my tank and 3 months later....still don't have it. Supposed to be a 1-2 week job.

They seem to all have personal and/or financial problems. Never get the work done on time and it seems the better they are the worse their personal problems are and the longer they will blow their deadlines.

So... finding a good shop is key...not just for the quality of work but also to know you will actually get your baby back!

I'm in Fort Worth and am looking as well...

I have been given several recommendations on other forums. I went to visit Johnny at http://www.sycoticdesigns13.com/ and his work was amazing. I was also given these guys below.. Comments are others, I'm just pasting their information. I've also been communicating with another forum member GM Muscle, seen above, he paints car up in Sherman, I believe.

Check out Chris and Todd at Advantage Autoworks. They are involved in a LOT of resto and paint work. They are in North Richland Hills. They did some bodywork on my Camaro. They will most likely get any work I can't handle.

There is a shop in Pilot Point called Sanderson's Customs and Conversions. They do incredible work on some very high-end cars, and the quality is amazing. They did the strip, paint and a bit of minor rust repair on my car and I would recommend them highly. They are not cheap, but their shop rates are comparable to other shops I checked and their reputation is very good. They do everything by the book, so the amount of hours is likely to be higher than others, but the results will be worth it. They are also pretty quick. My car was done in nine weeks and would have been complete sooner, but they were doing several SEMA cars at the same time.

I can tell you which one to stay away from. He will hide rust with bondo and weld patch panels over existing metal. I'll look into some of these shops as I'm looking for one in that area also.
