I think it is a bit more then the economy. Yeah, things are a little tighter, but also the shine has come off Nascar a bit. I really don't know anyone glued to their TVs for Nascar anymore, where 3 / 5 years ago, everyone was.

Never been a hige fan. Live 40 miles from the track and usually stay as far from there as I can during races. I think Nascar is in a bit of trouble.

It's turned into IROC. Boring. I also lost a lot of interest once Toyota bought their way in.

Ill be the first to admit that I was one of the faithful NASCAR fans that watched the first flag drop and the checkered flag wave, but once NASCAR turned to the COT the racing went in the toilet big time...now I couldnt even tell you who leads in points. I hope they figure it out before Obama decides hes a race fan.

Yeah, now that it is just another reality TV show I've pretty much lost interest. Afterall, they made it clear that they didn't give a rat's a$$ about the motorsports aspect of it and instead are just concerned about capturing the largest TV audience with overplayed drama, mindless BS, etc. Waaaaaay too commercial to be worth watching any longer. It was much better when the cars actually resembled showroom stock cars, i.e. 80's/90's.

I think they tried so hard to make it a mainstream sport chasing that dollar that it has driven away much of the core fanbase.

Not that anyone cares what I think... but there are two kinds of racing that have fallen off my radar... NASCAR was never on it... to much just going around in a circle is BORING in my book... NASCAR seems to really only want to appeal to 'joe the plumber' - selling beer and laundry detergent. LOL

Drag racing used to catch my attention... but even that has become boring. When I worked at PIR - and went to Pomona etc pit crewing as a teen for Whipple & McCulloch... you had to really really drive these AA/Fuel cars and could win or lose almost anywhere down the track. Now though - it seems more and more races are lost in the first 60 feet (or less). Tire shake - or lack of traction - and bingo - you lose. When it's over that quickly - it's kinda "ho hum". Seems more and more it's all about clutch set up rather than driver being able to 'peddle' the car down the track.

Okay - so this pic is about 40 YEARS AGO... Somebody get some scissors and cut that hair of mine!!

I work for the Big Brown company and got to work in the garages for a couple of races. and for the most part the current drivers wanted nothing to do with anyone that wasn't of any importance to them. The only two people I was able to have a conversation with were Dale Jarrett and Richard Petty. Now these two guys have nothing to prove and you can tell they really cared about their fans. Richard Petty wouldn't let me call him Mr. Petty. If the rest of NASCAR (and most big racing leagues) drivers cared about fans and real racing like these two guys do, they wouldn't be strugguling as much as they are.
