Default 295's on 9" wheels?

I'm considering 295's in the back, 275's in the front and I'm probably going to be using 17x9 wheels. I know the 275's will fit on my '81 Camaro. Is it wise to run 295's on 9" wide wheels, though? The aspect ratio will be 40. Is this too wide a tire with too short a sidewall to be worth using on a 9" rim? Some companies say it's fine and others don't when I use their compatibility guides and calculators. Just wondering what the maximum tire width for 9" wheel is. Thanks.

To narrow...A 275 calls for a 9.5-10 inch wheel. You could probably run a 9 with a 275.

I know for a fact I can safely run a 275 on a 9" wheel, but I think that's about as much as it'll handle. Rim selection within my budget has been a bit of a deciding factor. I know my car will accept a 10.5 rim in the back and 315's with a 5.5 backspacing. I've had trouble finding rims that I like (tasteful, not ghetto king, drug dealer stuff) that are available in both 9" and 10.5" widths in a 17" diameter with the right bolt circle, back spacing, etc. Oh well, if I run 275's all around I can rotate them and extend tread life and my engine's not so hardcore as to require anything bigger than a 275 out back. Thanks guys.

I think 295īs on a 9" rim will look too bulgy, but thatīs just my opinion...

I've been wondering the same thing regarding 8" wheels. Is 255 as wide as I can go without looking too bulgy?

Are the 275's you plan on running using the 40 aspect ratio? Has your suspension been lowered at all?

Is that about max for a 8" or could I go wider without the bulge?
