Default A little info on new Camaro prices

Well I was at work this morning and got a nice phone call from the old man. We own a wholesale car business and supply a lot of dealerships with their used car inventory. One of the perks of the job is getting to see the newest cars on the market at auction and test them out before anyone else does.

He saw a silver SS with the black stripes and a manual tranny for the first time at auction today (this is in Indianapolis for those of you who are curious). The window sticker said 37,000 and it sold for 45,500. He talked to the guy who bought it and was told the dealership would probably be asking 55-60 thousand for the car, but if they kept it long enough would maybe let it go for 50k.

Keep in mind this is not a car ordered by an individual so I have no clue what people might have got their early prices locked in at. Personally I just consider this another dumb move on the part of GM and their dealers. Instead of turning a 10 grand profit they should be selling these things to the "everyman" at a much greater volume for less profit. The more they sell the more they would then make. But oh well what do I know I've only been doing this buy and sell thing for 22 years.

How did that brand new SS get on a used wholesale auction lot with a window sticker still on it? I hope the dealer that bought it loses money on the deal.
There are dealers out there selling camaros at MSRP.
Dealers like this need to lose there franchise.

Well GM does not let them make them very much money on these so they are refunding people that pre ordered so they can mark them up. The going rate is up $5000 over sticker right now but I am sure it will hit higher. The dealers will burn thier own bridges if they keep this stuff up. I have already seen two cars at over $50K with a $34K sticker

I have a question. Was this at a GM sponsored auction being sold by GM? If not, my guess is that it was purchased new by a dealer or wholesaler with the intention of turning a quick profit. I would bet it was not a Chevrolet dealer who consigned the car to auction. GM has a dim view of those kind of activities and would most likely somehow penalize a dealer who did that.
When the Challengers first came out I knew at least two used car dealers who got their hands on one and each made $10,000 at wholesale auction.

This was an auction containing both new and used car dealers. The car was being sold by a dealership (unloaded from inventory) probably because they knew no one in their area could handle buying it at the time. It was sold to another new car store. Dad was at an auction yesterday (also in Indianapolis) where they have very large factory sales. He walked through the GM inventory on the lot (around 800 plus cars) and they had no Camaros.

Do you ever come to Milwaukee? I have worked at the Manheim sale there for 19 years. Maybe I know you or your Dad.

Question 55k-60k?!?!

A 37k Camaro selling for 55-60k?!?!?!
Something doesn't sound right? I cannot imagine anyone spending that much money on a '10 Camaro SS, unless it was a custom built car. (But, I guess people will buy them, so the dealerships will mark'em up!!)
THAT IS WEIRD!!!

GM has no control over the dealer. There are heavy franchise laws. If you are going to get mad, get mad at the individual who owns the dealership...

Van B the farthest north we have gone in the past 15 years is Indianapolis. We are located in western Kentucky.

Just so you guys know we also haul a lot of cars for the two largest dealers in west Tennessee. When the challenger came out they were selling them for 60k all day every day. They have decreased in price now but are still to high for me to buy from a new car store.

Also on another note everyone I know around home would love to buy a ford Thunderbird but they are still and have always have been overpriced (why I believe ford really did away with them).
