68 Camaro Widest front wheels on a standard subframe? - Lateral-g Forums

Hi guys how's things? I'm new to this site and hopeing you can all help me out with this problem i'm having with my 68 camaro..

I'm about to start a build on a 68 that I imported last year, I'd love to run either a 19" or 20" front wheel that needs to be a minimum width of 8 inches wide. I'll be looking to stay with a standard subframe as the shipping of one to Australia would cost me a packet, what's the widest rim/tire combo I can run on the front? Also if any of you guys have some pics of a 67-69 with 19" fronts and 20" rears it would be helpfull..

In my experience, 8" with a 245 tire is going to be it without hitting anything at full lock. Most stick with a tire diameter near 25"-25.5" up front as anything larger is going to have more interference issues. If you go 8.5" wide, you can always weld up the steering stops to limit your steering travel and keep the tires out of the frame, but it requires a little more attention when specifying your backspacing. There are other tricks, like notching the subframe to increase clearance...it just depends on how bad you want it. The steering box bolts are sort of in the way, but nothing a little fabrication and ingenuity can't fix.

I have 8.5" 18's on my '67 using global west upper and lower contol arms and I don't hit anything. Tires are 255-35's.

Thanks for all your help guys, I was talking to a friend last night about possibly getting a container to bring back some parts for our cars (should cut our shipping costs down dramatically) the global west/ATS stuff looks pretty nice Reboot is 8.5" the widest you can go with their chicane front?

Keep in mind that factory diameter was 25.9 inches. The 255/35 is 25 inches. That inch may be the difference between a rub at full lock and not.

I've got a 68 I'm building, got 18x8, and 18x9's on mine. Haven't driven it yet, so i don't know if it'll scrub. I know your pain with importing goods into Australia.

check out www.usmuscle.com.au , there is a lot of Australian's on here building Camaros and Mustangs. Good source for selling and buying some parts locally too.
