Default LS2 Motor mounts "HELP"

Hello,

Just looking to get some feedback into what are the best motor mounts to buy for an LS2 conversion in a 1971 Camaro, I have the LH8 oil pan and will be running a T-56 six speed.

Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for the response but from what I have read the Ats mounts shift the motor back towards the firewall, which means I have to open the shifter hole.
Don't no if this is True, just what I read.

I really like the Ats mounts, and hope this is not the case.

Thanks

they do set the engine back, as far as practical for the LS and still fit most popular applications; however, they're further forward than a standard small block at the bellhousing flange. Reason being the LS motors are very flat at the rear of the block, with the passenger head nearly equal with the bellhousing flange, whereas the small and big blocks extend the bellhousing flange further behind the head.

On my Chevelle with the same frame stands as the standard small block had the ATS mounts moved the rear of the engine about 1.25" or so forward, requiring me to lengthen my driveshaft. So to answer your question, I don't think any of the LS adaptor mounts will put your shifter hole further rearward, probably an inch or more forward. I don't know of any mounts that keep it in the stock location bellhousing-wise. Many put the motor higher and further forward than the ATS style mount.

Jody's right, and even with the motor further forward in relationship to the bellhousing, the T56 is longer than a 4 speed and the shifter is further back. The shifter hole will have to be opened up... at least that's how it worked on my car.

I also have the ATS plates and like them. I agree with others on having to cut for the shifter. I would be more concerned with the LH8 pan. All the pics I have seen with those installed show it hanging too far below the cross member. However I have not seen one in a second gen so maybe you have already crossed that bridge.

Edelbrock makes a set that is supposed to keep the engine in the same spot in relation to the 1st gen small block. They also make stainless headers to fit the mounts. Check out Andrew's GTO he used the products and was able to retain the same shifter position and driveshaft. They make the kit for 2nd gen f-body as well as the a-body. From what I have read you can use the f-body pan in the 2nd gen camaro, it would be a better choice than the LH8 for clearance.
