Default Old Car Craft article

Found this in one of my old Car Craft magazines. Kinda risky and outspoken considering where the hobby was going at the time.

I wonder if they knew then how big the import scene was going to be if they still would have printed that article.

Looks to be accurate 7 years later.

I remember that.

The "import scene" was probably bigger when the article was written.

My buddy with a 11sec 512ci Duster took one of the tuner guys we hang out with for a ride(tuner guy has a low 13sec car) he screamed like a little girl.

When he asked what the weird sensation was in his stomach we both answered him "TORQUE"

Import scene is dead now.. or at least not near what it was. We killed a couple of import mags along with KIT CAR.

Most of the observations in that story are dead on true

I saw a truck in town with "My lug nuts have more torque than your import" in vinyl lettering on his back glass.

I still roll with laughter every time I see a kid with his pants buckled at his knees and his unders showing. In prison that means he's available. To me it's just comic fodder. 'I just don't understand'

The whole ricer thing died when everyone figured out that it takes 30-40k to make a four cylinder turbo motor fast. The whole low-buck, build it in your driveway thing, we are young and this is our way of doing it, died pretty fast after that (not to mention the expensive, complicated, electronic computer thing)

Hot Rodding was built on the do-it-yourself, in your drive-way, low buck, innovation, parts swapping, the engine from one model into the bay of another model, premise.
Yes, we have come a long way, but we are still pulling motors out of esclade's swaping them into Camaros. Trying to swap Corvette brakes onto anything with 5 on 4 3/4 bolt patterns. Ford electric fans into everything.

I don't know what you're going to swap into the 2010 Camaro, but by 2040 we should know.
