Default Your Opinions on Electromotive, please!

Doing my research. Please give me any and all opinions on electromotive. I'm currently running accel Gen VI. Upgrading for various reasons. I had almost decided on FAST, but the engine builder wants electromotive

no..........no............nnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooo ooooo. How's that? What a clunky tuning experience compared to any of the other major players. I hated it, and every friend I know who's tuned one agrees. Sorry to your engine builder as he's a friend of mine.................

Edit: let me add a couple things. If your local tuner is experienced and likes the Electromotive system, then that changes things. As I've said before if you're not doing the tuning then you want a system that local tuners can tune.

Not to derail the thread, but what are you favorite EFI systems Jody? Of the big ones Accel, Fast, Holly etc which do you prefer?

Thanks!

I can only give judgement on the ones I've tuned which is the factory GM, factory Ford, FAST, Accel Gen VII, Electromotive (briefly), and BigStuff 3.

The factory computers are very good, now that there are tuning systems like EfiLive and HP Tuners (for the GM stuff). May not have all the extra bells and whistles like some of the aftermarket ones, but do a great job. If I wanted true altitude compensation for driving through many differing elevations the factory stuff has it nailed. Aftermarket is still working on it, at least as far as BigStuff3, and they don't have it dialed yet.

Electromotive, clunky in my opinion. Graphics were like DOS vs Windows XP as compared to the other aftermarket systems. Much lower resolution also.

Gen VII, pretty nice, but has a lot of overlapping tuning maps, plus I hated the sportsmen key vs pro key deal (had to pay $300 extra or similar to get the special key to be able to tune all the tables). One of the hardest I'd think to tune for a beginner or hobbiest.

Old FAST, my favorite for ease of tuning. Could handle a lot of power, easy to tune, and the tuning maps made sense, easy to understand. I have a new box and harness sitting in the shop for a future project.

Fast XFI and BigStuff 3, both nice, lots of features and relatively simple to figure out. Nitrous controls and other features built in. Can run two pumps, etc.

This does not rule out other systems, just that I have no direct experience with them so cannot comment from personal experience.

I pretty much have to agree with Jody on every point, pretty much would be a cut and paste of his post. I have also tuned a couple MOTEC's and for me it falls into the Electromotive area. Not a ton of experience with either and that could be some of my personal issues with them.

I will be playing with MotiV8r's electromotive setup soon and we will see.

Pretty much I prefer the FAST XFI for a straight forward and easy to use setop. The Accell Gen7 and Thruster has a nice alomst self tune on the fly feature, but still can be over complicated to a fault.

That is the most important thing!

I don’t car if the program looks like old and does not have good resolution, I care about results. If you are using a SBC then using the coil packs is great. On a small Hemi nitro motor we picked up about 30hp with them, Not sure if the others offer that or not?

There is no question that with the other brands you will be able to find people who are more familiar with it but they all do the same thing and anyone who is any good can figure it out.

HP Works is a great place for Electromitve info, I told Larry this the other day when I saw him at Frank's place. http://hpworks.com/

And if your motor guy know how to tune with it, then the hard part is done.

And I will be running a Tec3 in my car.

Default ECU-882C-x

There is a system that supports the above requirements.

Weger Motorsports is a reseller, they may be in your area ?

I can answer questions, though not "advertise" here.

Just trying to be of some help,

Lance

that's easily solved.................... I do have a question on the altitude compensation which you claim yours has. Does it work, and to what altitude? Do you use a factory ecu with your system? I ask because those are the only ones I've seen that work. The BigStuff 3 (mine) has altitude comp with a separate map sensor, but it does not work. The GM and Ford computers I've tuned worked perfectly. Would love to have another aftermarket option that had true altitude comp, as this seems to be a nice feature for more and more folks.

Default '882, '422 Ok

Both the ECU-882 AND the ECU-422 have a full time BARO and MAP sensor "board mounted".

The MAP sensor can be a 1Bar, 2.5 Bar, 4 Bar, 7 Bar.
The BARO (MPX-4115AP) has been tested to 80,000 feet (DOD), though most often from sea level to Lake Tahoe.

No, the "factory" EMS is not used, this is a stand alone.

Jody, my system is "degree based" AND we "look" at all the teeth on the target wheel (60-2, 36-x, etc.)

More questions ?

I asked because Meaney claims his works and it doesn't. That does not mean yours doesn't work............... Thanks for the info. I'm gonna have to try yours out at some point. Do you have any software that can be downloaded to see what the tuning looks like?
