Default HELP! Racepak (IQ3) to MEFI 4B Interface

Yeah - I know, not a question that a lot of people will have experience with but as they say it only takes one person to answer a question...

I am looking for guidance on getting an adapter to connect the Racepack CAN bus harness to the MSD (OBD) harness. Racepak supplies an electrical adapter but not a physical one (they have a generic comment in the instructions to contact your MEFI4 manufacturer).

Can anyone provide a part number or contact of someone who might be able to supply this adapter? I have emails in at MSD and Racepak but being a weekend it could be a while before I hear back from either. This is the last piece that we need to fire the LS7 and need to find a solution ASAP.

Thanks for your help,

James

only person I know personally that's done this combo is Mark Stielow with Camaro X. He's not online much, and Charley is out of town this weekend so he can't go look at the car. Not much help, sorry.

I will say that integrating it was tough, at least getting everything programmed to work correctly. And that was for Mark who does this type of technical stuff on a daily basis.

i did some reading on it a while back.. and found a forum where there was a description.. cant find it to save my life right now... but my advice would to post on ls1tech.com and im sure someone will chime in (edit... it was the UDX ... not sure it applies.... and the interface was for canbus/BS3)

but try and post here aswell: http://www.racepak.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=4

if i recall correctly the wiring part sounded really easy, and then it took some pain in the butt programming in the menus in the racepak...

I thought Stuart's blue car has a LS7 and Racepack? Perhaps DSE has an answer?

Yeah, my car has the new IQ3 dash. Kyle is running the same dash in his second gen. Call DSE and ask for Kyle Jr. or talk to Kyle directly. Works great.

Thanks for the replies everybody, I appreciate it.

Stuart - I had thought of your car right off the bat and spoke to Kyle Jr. this morning. While he didn't have the solution (we're using different harnesses) he did at least give me an alternative.

I think that I have calls into just about everybody who could possibly have been involved in either of the products... hopefully I can get it sorted out today so it doesn't throw us behind... time is getting tight.

Thanks again,
James

I will hunt down Roger Conley's Phone number, he is the Racepak representative that works with us at all the drag race events. He would be able to connect us to who you need. I will call the another Roger later this morning after he gets up from our long weekend and get the ball rolling on getting Conley's number. Yeah it gets pretty confusing at the track with 5 Roger or Rodgers in our pit.

Five of you? In the same place... wow... you're confusing enough on your own.

I will let you know how this plays out. I MAY have found a solution through Racepak - they are going to overnight an adapter that they think should work. At this point I am cautiously optimistic but part of me will still dread opening the box tomorrow morning...

I am running MSD's stand alone MEFI harness and ECU. From what I was told this morning, Stuart is running a stock (based?) harness and reflashed ECU.

From what I have heard this morning, the way that some people are using the Racepak dash in LSx applications is the same way that you would with a non-EFI engine - with what would amount to a second set of sensors and Racepak's V-net CAN bus cable. That is always an option (and is our fallback if need be) but the way that it has been explained to me the loggers are supposed to interact with the ECU harness directly as the MSD harness (and maybe the factory one as well - I can not speak directly to that) utilize CAN bus architecture.

Hopefully I will have an update in the morning.

James
