Default Big Jim's man car!

Only a real man would insist on doing his own stunts at age 50+ during 'The Rockford Files', so it's no surprise he raced these bad boys...

Those are some good pics. Thanks for mentioning the Vette magazine article. Hopefully they have it online also. The car was sold on August 15, 2008 for $744,000.

Watched a video recently from Hollywood Video called Dust to Glory, a documentary about the baja 1000. Mentioned Jim Garner raced in the early years and showed a photo of him in a race car. Looks like he was all around in racing. Coool! Nice vette too.

That I would think has to be rough on a racers body.

They sure made it look that way. One of the main "characters" of the documentary was a dirt bike rider that was going to do it solo, and try to win. Only one other biker had ever done it solo and he came in like 26th place. Usually they break the race between 3 riders. This guy was in 3rd place for almost the whole race and biffed it at night in the last few hours. He took out his headlights in the crash and another rider came by shortly after and had him follow behind to the next pit spot. This guy that was in the lead said they were above 100 mph at times. Imagine doing that on a dirt trail through the Mexican desert at night with only the guy's tailight in front of you to guide you along. Nuts! The solo guy ended up placing 6th after stopping to get some lights rigged up and did the 1000 in like 18 hours and 22 minutes. That included having to ride on a flat back tire for 40 miles earlier in the day, pit stops for repairs, gas, food and the potty! He was pretty well delirious when he arrived and had a broken rib and wrist if I remember. Now that's one tough dude!
