I am new to the group and am hoping that there may be a member that is considering selling their car. Please provide me some feedback if my wish list-vs.-budget is out of line.

I am looking for a 69 coupe, no convertibles considered, however any Gen I year is a possibility.

I would like all modern suspension and drive train (4 wheel disc, coil overs or bags, 4link, pumped engine, rack and pinion steering, modern gages and dash). A modern 5/6sp is preferred but a stout auto would be considered (no column shift). Must run well on pump gas.

I do not want any of the intake to protrude from the hood, and prefer as low rise a hood as possible.

I would prefer there to be some sort of rear seat, but this is not a must.

I would like a nice stereo, but have no need for any TV's or DVD's.

Upgraded seats are desirable, roll bars are OK (not required), but I would like to easily be able to get in the car.

Body and paint need to be in very good condition and absolutly rust free.

Now the crazy part...my budget must stay under $100K.

Can all of this coexist?

Why not just have it built??? Pick your own options/colors/drivetrain to suit you.

I appreciate the referrals for some of the Pro touring fabricators that the group has been using, and more importantly have been happy with. I am strongly leaning towards buying a completed car that the owner would like to find a new home for rather than build to my own specifications. In past projects I have done I have found that I have blown my budget every time...and not by a few $'s, also the time to build can often be considerable. Someone on the list mentioned that the ROI (return on investment) is often $0.50 per dollar invested, or a financially loosing investment. I personally have found this to be true, but perhaps not quite to the 1/2 extent.

The pluses of doing your own build is you get what you want. Does anyone ever buy someone elses car and have it be exactly done the way they would do it them selves? Not to often.

I very much appreciate the lead to rockdogz 1968 car. He and I have exchanged emails and I hope to talk with him this weekend. He has the car very well documented. So much so that I have only partially gotten through the history of the car so far.

I've seen Tom's Camaro and it's very nice and it's enough under your budget that you could "tweek" it to your own tastes.

You could buy mine but it doesn't have music... and it's hard to get in and out of.. and it's a bit over your budget. lol... but it has other charms.

Good luck with your search and from a $$$ standpoint you are doing it the right way.

This is a no brainer. I hate to say never, but I don't plan on ever building a car from scratch again!

Even more so now since the toy market is softening...

I plan to build a bunch of them from scratch. I always want exactly what I want and nothing less. Lifes to short to compromise.

Sometimes the big compromise is waiting more than a year for a car you can pay for today (at half or 2/3 the cost to build) and drive tmrw!

But... your point Vegas is why I never should say never!
