Default Fresh air ventilation with VA ac ??

Plese correct me if i have not understood this right. If Vintage Air camaro ac kit is used it takes all air it uses inside the cabin ? And the fresh air holes are not used at all ?

If so, where the cabin gets fresh air ? I know cabin is not air tight, but there are times when ac is not needed, and i want to drive windows closed. Then some kind of ventilation is needed.

Can i just bay non ac style kick panels like these and open the flaps when needed ?

Yes you have understood it correctly, be prepared for misty windows

The VA kit has covers for the air inlet. So the only way to get fresh air in is through the floorvents as you have figured out.

I will modify mine in the winter to use the original air inlet on the right side and put a valve there so I can select outside air or inside air. Then route that to the VA faninlet with a homemade cover.

I also found a climatecontroller from Waeco, it give you much better control than the neanderthal control VA suuplies. I mean we live in the 21st century so we could expect a higher level of technology from a AC-control.

If you're interested I can get one for you from my AC-guy in Stockholm.

Arrggh... I was hoping not got this right... I did print the installation manual from VA website have found it really intersting to read. I allways like to study everything as far as possible and then make the purchase.

Jan, you dont like the VA controller ? I have looked the GenIV 3 knob version wich i like a lot with black anodized. I hope i would like it . If not ill give you an email of the modern controller.

I hate misty windows and stuffy airless feel in the car. So i will bay the fresh air "non ac" vents first and then see how it works.

Our cars always get air through the doorseals.

The advantage with the control I have is that it is a climate control. You just set the temperature you want and it will adjust the fan speed and compressor to reach it. When the temp is OK the fans slows down. When the interior gets to warm again the AC turns on. Just like modern cars do.

Here is an old thread about it:

I connected an rotary switch selector to control the doors in the VA box.

If your car is not sealed well and it is really humid and you run your A/C full blast, the unit will most likely freeze up and cease blowing cold air. I have had this experience with both first gen Camaros that I have put Vintage Air in.

My AC guy recommended a thermostat for that. I have it placed in the AC element and if it freezes it will shut down the compressor.
