Default Mesh Grille...again!

I'm researching the best way to insert a mesh grille into the front valence on a 68 Firebird. I've seen a few guys say they "matched grill to body with heat". Is this just a fancier way to say "I tack welded the sucker in" or am I missing something?

Sounds like welding to me. I have played with the idea of using a second set of grilles for the valence openings. Picture the grille cut at the proper angle to fit the valence and look sort of like the factory grille above it. I'm not sure it will fit very well, but I like the idea of a uniform appearance.

Sounds more to me like they're suggesting heating it to manupilate curves and contours or to make it look the way it does in a Cadillac V Series car rather than just lining an opening with it from any point you can get a few tacks stuck.
