Default 1968 AMX project car 390

1968 AMX 390

This is a running and driving AMX 390 Auto. It is a restoration project and does need some work, but is good enough that it can be driven while it is restored! Just like all my projects it seems I don’t have the time or money to finish this one. The engine runs great, transmission shifts smooth and the car doesn’t drive badly either! I’ve been cruising around town in it, but haven’t taken it over 20 miles from home yet. It does shake a little at highway speeds although the front end components feel tight so it probably just needs an alignment. Believe me, for a stock car this thing has balls and will readily roast the tires on command. Shows no signs of engine problems, it starts and runs great even after sitting for a month. This car is an original 390 car - not swapped. You can read 390 cast into the block underneath the motor mounts.

VIN 8AC397X311918

Body:
The car needs the lower quarters repaired due to a previous Bondo repair job. The passenger’s side floor has been professionally repaired already. The driver’s side floor has two small holes. The frames are MINT and so are the inner fender aprons and the trunk floor. The doors look good but the trunk lid will need a little work due to blistering on the bottom seam. The car has two good fenders and a good hood, both with minor dings but nothing serious. The radiator support is slightly bent which could be easily repaired. The fenders and hood appear to have come off another car - I’m assuming a light front end hit because the frames and inner fender aprons show no signs of damage. There is also a little hole on the driver side A-pillar, an odd spot for rot, but an easy fix. The troughs under the fenders are completely rot free, a definite plus. The rockers appear rot free also. I was told the drivers door came off a 1969? So it shows the paint code as black. Sorry I do not have the original door or tag. I was also told someone stamps these tags new so you could get the correct options on it. I cannot stress how solid this car is! The sheet metal work on this car could easily be finished up in a couple weekends. Then off to paint!

Interior:
The interior needs a new carpet set, also a new headliner. The seats will need upholstery. The driver’s side seat will need a couple of springs fixed. Any upholstery shop should be able to redo the seats. The carpet headliner and seat covers are all available repro. The radio is missing. All other interior parts are in the car and intact.

Other issues:
The pass side glass is unglued from the track
The drums still need to be changed, they are under spec and I could not get them on the day the brakes were done.
The car has headers with leaky gaskets and glass packs, no exhaust system. Sorry - Joe Dirt must have owned this car.
I have the pass side rocker molding, factory air cleaner, pass side kick panel, and AC pump all not pictured. As well as the spare tire and jack.

The car is currently registered under my name in CT. I can give you a copy of the current registration with my name on it as well as a bill of sale. I was told cars this old are no longer titled in CT.

This car would make and AMAZING po touring car, This car is light and nimble as hell already, some major mods and this thing would be unbeatable.

$7500 OBO
