Default mechanical fuel system

I'm getting ready to build my fuel system for my 68 and was wondering what you guys thought of it.

I'm going to narrow my stock tank to accept my mini tubs and then weld on a comp engineering sump kit. Then 10 AN line is going to run to a 170 gph holley mechanical pump. Out of that the line will go into a Y-block then into two seperate 6 AN holley regulators (one to the carb and one to the nitrous).

Basically I was wondering if that was enough to support a 500 horse small block and an additional 150 shot of nitrous. I really didn't want to run an electric pump or that fairly expensive mechanical race pump if I didn't have to.

I hope that wasn't too confusing.

i bought a race pump and i am awestruck with the quality... it delivers all the fuel you want up to over 1000 Hp and the pressure is as high as you set the regulator...

and its silent!

I have used the billet 170 pump on 754 HP motors with sucsess and it is a great piece, but no way would I run motor and nitrous of it. Nitrous fuel pressure is so important, unless I have a monster pump like a A1000 I will never run a single fuel system. Personally, I have had good sucsess using the old noisey Holley Blue pump on the nitrous side. I like te fact you know it is on before you push the button.

There are fail safes, pressure switches, that will not allow the nitrous to come on without proper pressure. I have never hurt a motor on nitrous yet, and never run any of that stuff, just 2 gauges, nitrous and nitrous fuel pressure..

the race pump im refering to is the "race pumps" mechanical piston pump that is cam activated...

with regards to the Nitrous i would propably also do an independent system with a fuel cell, pump, pressure safety switch and so on. and run it on race fuel just for good measure..

I see what you guys are saying about running two seperate systems, that would be optimal, but it's only a 150 shot. Is it really uncommon to run one pump for a small shot of nitrous and carburater? I'm not questioning your knowledge, it's just that two seperate fuel systems won't work for my street application.

what do you mean "wont work" ? if you had to you could use a Holley "blue" with a small fuel cel in the engine compartment. a separate fuel system is a lot cheaper than a new motor.
