Default 350 (target) motor mods

Just got a crate 350, had about 30,000 miles on it. Took the heads off and oil pan. Everything looks good. It's a 4 bolt main. I'm looking for a good kit to give it reasonable HP 400 or so. I'm new to the car stuff, so I'm looking for idea's. I've seen DART kits & edlelbrock (sorry for the spelling). These kits come with heads intake etc. Is this a good start. They seem reasonable for the HP and cost of the parts? The motor is a 85 and older block. Thanks in advance for replies

I did one back in '96 and since then, a lot of magazine's have had builds on this with the same short block. I did mine with a Goodwrench 250...

Typical 425+hp 87 octane pump gas engine:

195cc TFS or 195cc AFR heads, small chamber
FelPro steel shim gasket
Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap
1/2" phenolic four hole spacer
Holley HP series 750cfm
Comp Cams XE camshaft, either the XE268 or XE274 (both are hyd flat tappet)
CV Products/Champ Pans oil pan 1080LTRR
1 5/8" to 1 3/4" headers, 2 1/2" exhaust with X-pipe

Sprinkle with MSD parts and flog.
