Default Del Mar Video

Here's a short in car video that was shot by a local media member at Del Mar. Anyone that has run in this parking lot knows it has about as much grip as a sheet of ice.

No kidding Tim! Looked like it had seal-coat on it?
I'd need a hand brake to make those tight hairpins I think

Yeah seal-coat with a light dusting of fine sand.

Tim, was nice meeting you at the Auto Cross. You were awful fast in spite of the limited traction. You certainly gave me something to shoot for in the future. What was your fastest time in the end? You were somewhere in the 54's, right?I couldn't break into the 56 range ---had a 57.10---I believe there is another second in the car once I get some 200 tread wear on it and a bit more tire on the front of the car. This will most likely be Fab 53's next project on my car. Hope to see you at Fontucky for the RTTC event.

Doug

Doug, it was nice to meet you too. I think 54.7 was the best I did. You looked like you had a couple of good runs going when you carb started having fits. I'm not sure if I'll make it out to to RTTC or not, it's a long haul for me and I'm not sure I'll be done with the planned changes to the car in off season or not, we'll see what happens.

I figured out what was causing the loss of power---pulled the tank, cleaned the filter, nothing. Blew out the lines--felt like there was a restriction. Traced the line to see if it was kinked anywhere and I found a smashed clamp on the fuel line. When I had jacked up the car from the side, I accidently got the jack to close to one of the adell clamps which squeezed the nylon braided fuel line together---there was just enough fuel to get me through the those first couple of turns in the float bowl--but the pump couldn't pull enough through that restriction to keep up. Did it to myself per usual. At least it was an easy fix. Works fine now.

Ice has more grip than Del Mar

Del Mar was basically 3 very tight U-turns and a longer left turn, and slick as ice. Pretty sad track for showing off muscle cars, but hey, the spectators get to see and hear the cars in motion, so it does what it's supposed to. I ran 2 pathetic times on Saturday and came back Sunday and again ran another pathetic lap. Then got some advice from Matt Alcala and also decided to push the car a little harder and dropped more than 3 seconds down into the 57's on the 2nd lap. Car obviously has a lot more potential than I do as a driver, which I was happy to see after all the changes in the past year. I just didn't care to further explore that potential on that particular track. I didn't even bother playing with the shock settings AFCO recommended to me for the autocross, or increasing my camber. Just stuck with my street settings. I'll save the adjustments and the wear and tear for a better track. Very happy with the car's balance though. Love the new setup. Enjoyed seeing all the better drivers and killer cars showing how it's done.

Doug is still driving his car to its maximum potential with his solid skills behind the wheel. Doug, your suspension improvements will pay big dividends once you get some sticky tires with more width on them. Until then, they're not getting their full chance to shine. Glad to hear the issue on Sunday was something simple.

Tim, 54's are very fast. Great driving.
