Hey all, so PPG and LOF where OEM for these cars, both good fit and quality.
Pilkington good too, made in England last i knew.
Couple of comments regarding todays glass:
1. The quality of the glass is very rarely a result of this, poor fitman and poor craftmenship can cause any glass to break. You can have an OEM glass, but if the cab wasnt built right or was tweaked from an accident you will have fitmeant issues (us autoglass guys know this from the 67-72 chevy pick ups)
2. All glass for auto (cept' black market, which there is really no demand for) has to be DOT compliant, which means windshields have to have a specific mill for the interlayer of laminated glass, .030 in most cases.
3. Keep in mind, the roads everywhere here in the USA are deteriorating more and more, change in weather patterns, more cars on the road, more commerce, etc, etc, What this does is place more and more stone debris on the road only to be kicked up by somebody else, and "tink" chip, then "run" (the trade word for cracked glass).
4. The windshields are getting larger and lighter, not for our classics, but since were on this topic, Larger for drag-coeffientacy, reduced drag= more mpg, same with lighter, they're thinning the glass down to reduce weight (and manufactoring costs) which leads to easier breakage, but keeping the same interlayer (the vinyl that makes glass "laminated").
thanx for reading more possible useless trivia our minds need, Mike
