Default Cold Air With Procharger

Alright, I was wondering if anyone has done this, and has any pictures.
I have a 68 charger that I am in the process of building. I am going to run a 383 bigblock, with a procharger, intercooled. Since the SC sits on the drivers side, the inlet to the SC faces the rear of the car.
I have seen many set-up like this on all makes of cars, and for the most part there is just an air filter on it.
1. I personallly dont like the way this looks. 2. I know this just sucks up a lot of hot air. I have seena few cars that just take a sharp 180 towards the front of the car but, having this sharp of a bend wil kill to much power.

I was thinking about designing some kind of channel to go from the front rad support, to run right over the air cleaner. Just a thought, for now. If anyone has done something to get cool air to their inlet, I am open to ideas.

Put a heat shield between the headers and the filter. I'd be more worried about the heat the procharger makes compressing the air.

It is going to be intercooled. And besides I am looking to make the engine compartment as clean as possible.

you are correct on the 180 bend on the inlet of the blower, that will cost power, probably a lot. I've seen people run the inlet tube into the cowl area with an airbox in there for fresh air. Also saw one run through the drivers inner fenderwell and into the wheelwell, but that was on a large car with huge inner fenderwells...........

I also saw a guy run an inlet tube back to the drivers firewall area, around the inner fender and hid it in that recessed space. He also had cut the inner fenderwell and added a screen for more cool air. That was a fair weather driver only though, as that would also direct water right into the filter.

Saw your Charger at the shop yesterday, Manny. That's gonna be killer!

I had the same question about you on this, and after seeing Jody's results reported of losing a couple hundred hp or something with the 180* bend coming out of the SC, I decided also just to stick the air filter coming straight off the back of it. Had to compromise somewhere.

If space permits you can also do what I did and take fresh cool air from the cowl at the base of the windshield. Worked great and resulted in a very noticeable IAT drop.

thanks for the comps flash. Believe me, that is one of the thing keeping me sane on the deployment, knowing that the car is getting done exactly the way i want it.
Thanks for all the hints also guys. One thing about the cowl, the engine bay is already painted.

Like I mentioned I would like to run some kind of channel, and have the exit sit right over the air filter. Or another thing I saw today on line is, have a section of pipe go to the bottom of the car, room permiting.

I am so looking forward to go on leave this Friday the 15, just so I could go over this with Jason, owner of shop doing my car.
