The bodyman called tonight and wants $2500 to replace the driver's side quarter, outer wheel house, trunk pan drop off panel, roof skin, rear deck filler panel, and DSE mintub kit install. Once he finishes this part, I'll put the car on a rotisserie and work the undercarriage. Then he gets the car back for final filler work, blocking, and prepping for paint in which he wants approximately $1000 - $1500. Does $4K sound reasonable for all this? Too high...too low?

That sounds pretty low to me for all that stuff.

From my experience most guys are charging around $1000 for a quarter panel install and around $2500 for a DSE minitub install (most quote around 40 hours with a shop rate of $60-80/hr).

Some guys still do good work for cheap prices, but I would be really careful. Make sure you can trust this guy.

Is this a shop or some guy thats does stuff "on the side"...... that can make a difference on what he charges and your confidecne if things "go south" with the work he does etc.

Most guys pay that just to have the tubs installed (2500)sounds like a pretty good deal. Hopefully he does good work?

He's a body man by trade, and I know him pretty well. Yes he does do sideline jobs after work and on weekends, but he's definitely not a poser. He just a finished a 69 Camaro for a friend of mine and it came out excellent. He replaced every piece of metal on it except the tail pan and roof skin. This is his first time doing a mini tub install, but I can't see him really screwing it up. We'll see. I drop the car off to him the last weekend in June. I'll post photos as I get them.

Rough guess of 16 hours for the quarter, 5 hours for wheel house and 4 hours for the drop off. That's 25 hours just for that. And that's just to get the stuff on the car. The DSE mini-tubs I thought were a 30 hour plus job?

What's his hourly rate?

Anyways, his price doesn't seem out of line.

Talk to some of his other customers and see what they have to say about him. Other than that, Thats cheap!

That's very cheap!! The shops in my area charge at least $50 per hour.

Wow that is cheap. I know you said you trust this guy, but I would make sure you can lock in that price so it doesn't keep going up as the project progresses!

IF HE IS ONLY CHARGEING 20.00 PER HOUR HE IS DOING IT AS A SIDE JOB . NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. IT IS HOW I STARTED . BUT AT THAT PRICE HE CAN'T POSSIBLEY BE INSURED . JUST KEEP THAT IN MIND BECAUSE IF SOMETHING HAPPENS YOUR GOING TO BE UP A CREEK WITHOUT A PADDEL SO TO SPEAK.
