Well it's been a long time coming but I finally have some updates on my '70 Camaro, now named "Julius". Since my introduction (http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=7378) thread back on January 1st there's been a 'little progress'.

- First, as mentioned above the car is now named. JULIUS now has a website to check out the progress (www.70camaro-julius.com), still 'under sonstruction' but will be up and running soon.
- Second, the seats are back from the upholstry shop and ready to be put in. Not real satisfied with the back, think I'm going to re-do that to recess the centers and make them look more like front. Fronts are just the generic Summit brand seats re-covered in the factory color (Sandlewood) leather.
- Third, installed the gauge panel, painted the tilt column and installed the new steering wheel.
- Fourth, and most exciting (for me), the motor is complete and dropped off at the dyno shop (sorry no pics on that yet). It's a Vortech supercharged 388 sbc. Nothing too fancy, just "typical" sbc stuff...

The motor is to be back in about a week, after that I'll start on the Tremec 5 speed install. The car is an original automatic car, so that will have it's hurdles I'm sure...

Anyway, sorry for the long post, I'll be in touch with more updates later hopefully on the website next time.

Just returned from the dyno with 'mixed' results... Pulled some good numbers on the motor alone, without the blower belt. Put the belt on and that is where the troubles began...

all motor = 560HP/448TQ @ 7,000 rpm with 30 deg timing.

motor with blower = 640HP/515TQ @ 7,000 rpm with 28 deg timing.

Seems the regulator was NOT boost referencing with the blower. It actually was DROPPING significantly as the boost increased. We ran out of time for the day and are home doing our homework to figure out the regulator. We are going to hit it again in the morning. With the 560 on motor, we're hoping for 700+ with the blower.

Attached is a pic with the blower. Video is coming soon. Once I figure this damn camera out!!! Stay tuned...

I'm sticking with my 700+ hp guess.

Now where's the video? :D

Sorry Scott, no 700 HP.... the cam is just a bit off on lobe seperation. The best we could do is 645hp/550ft-lbs @ 7,000 rpm with the blower. A you can see from the dyno screen shot the HP curve just kept on climbing, wanting more RPM as went along. I wanted to spin it higher with the max impellar speed (50K) but thought better of it for now... We're going to put in the car as is and maybe do a cam swap this winter and go for 700HP when we have good air.

Atleast I have the video loaded for everyone's viewing pleasure... One video is motor only and the other is with the blower belt on.

nice car and nice setup. I thought about a blower for my big block, but I don't think I need that much power. I looks damn nice though. check out NastyZ28.com they would love to see this thing.

I just thought it was time for another update... the motor and 5 speed are in. Since the "GO" is now complete, now it's time for the "WHOA". Updating the factory brakes with the Hydraboost system and Wilwood brakes. Below are some pics of the progress. The goal is to have it "done" by the GoodGuys event at Lowe's Motor Speedway... 8 weeks to go!!! :willy:

I wish all you guys would stop making progress on your cars! :P I haven't had a chance to finish cleaning up my garage! Arg!

I was planning on cleaning up in the garage yesterday, but when I went to the local Staples to buy some boxes, the line had something like 50 people in it! I forgot, school starts today.

Then I got a migraine, and couldn't do much work anyway; I must be getting old.

Your Camaro is looking good, keep the pics rolling!

Shiny SIde Up!
Bill

syborg tt, It came from Evernham Performance Parts (http://www.evernhammotorsports.com/main.cfm?pagename=ed_performanceparts) and was modified to use on my motor. 100% rebuildable and has a great flow rate. Look close and you can see the added water lines to get cool water between the exhaust valves.

I'm looking into to buying those same seats for my 71 and was wondering how you liked them? I'm about 5'9'' 170 lbs and want to make sure they are atleast semi confortable before i shell out the money. Thanks.

I'm not sure how much modifications it would take to run on the Billet Specialties components. With a Bridgeport and a little imagination anything will work!!! :) Trust me, i know....

I like the seats, more becasue they were inexpensive and that allowed me to spend my $$$ on other 'performance' things. I'm 5'11" 170 lbs and they fit me perfect. They are heavier and the quality isn't as nice as the Recaro's, Cobra's, etc... but for less than $400 for the pair, they are good enough for now. I will be upgrading to the Recaro or Cobra line of seats in the future, but for now, they're good enough.
