To some extent it works as described. It is true that they used it in airplanes during WWII.

What it does is raising the compression, the vaporized water will take up space in the combustion chamber and therefore give you higher coompression. Remeber though that an aircraft engine has quite low compression for durabillity so it that case this can give an high output for a short time. For our engines with high compression this can't add much before the engine starts to knock.

They also claim that this device will produce hydrigen-rich bubbles. That is true since water is hydrogen and oxygen. But that molecule has the stronget binding in the universe and will not be divided just by being sprayed into an intake runner. So we will not get any pure Hydrogen effect.

This is pretty much the same principle as NOS systems, which also was used in WWII aircrafts for the same reason. However the Oxygen will be released in this case and add some more to the combustion.

Both systems also has an cooling effect that will raise the density of the fuelmixture.

The only way it would be a benefit in a naturally aspirated car would be if you can't run your optimum timing due to detonation problems. In that case the water would pull a lot of the excess heat out of the cylinder and cool the air charge a bit which would allow more timing. On a supercharged engine this is used quite a bit with either water, alcohol, or a mix of the two. Same thing, allows more boost and timing which is more power.

However if you can already run your engines optimum timing, or on a supercharged engine you do not increase the boost and/or timing you won't see any results. I would really doubt their claims of increased toque and power, at least in the range they claim UNLESS your timing is way below optimal and this allows it to be put where it belongs.

It may also be a compression boost as Jan said, I do not know. Generally in a supercharged engine it is completely evaporated in the cylinder though as it absorbs heat.

well, I'm a n00b here, and thought I'd offer up a little tech for my first post, but Jody is very much on the right track. The water injection is used to prevent pre-detonation by raising the flash point of the air/fuel mixture. It does not really increase the compression ratio because there is so little used, I've seen about 5% H2O to 95%Gasoline. There are a couple web articles that explain it decently.

So what about bone stock non-power adder applications? According to the site those numbers posted are from a n/a car. Now, I'm a born skeptic and I know you can write yourself a few good bunk testomonials but these people have alot of testimonials saying what a miracle product it is....I'm tempted to try it and see what's up. My daily car I use haul stuff around is a 93 Ford Escort that's in perfect condition, a little dirty a times with a few dings but fine as is. It's a 1.9 roller motor with a 5spd. I replaced the motor November before last myself when the #4 exhaust valve dropped in the chamber and chewed it up. I wouldn't mind hooking this up for fun. Anyone forsee any real potential gains or am I just wasting my time?

What water injection will do is let your engine act like its running a higher octane gas, and allow you to run more timing and more compression. Personnally, I think its a bandaid, but then most people don't want to coin up for av-gas, or race fuel. I believe that you could mix methanol with your gasoline and have a similar effect, but I could be way off base.
