set to fly from LAX to Amarillo, TX tomorrow to visit family for xmas. The problem is that it's on United so we had to chance planes in...

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_4876429 :willy:

Even if they open the airport tomorrow mid-day I would think we would still be screwed.

Thinking of just driving.. what's a 1000 miles.. 15 hours?

damn snow...

You are screwed Steve....We were supposed to fly to Denver today to visit family and will not be able to fly there any time soon. My dad says the Denver metro area got 24+ inches of snow and there is so much on the ground they can't even get ground crews out to clear the roads. Good luck!!! I hope we can get home too!

Even when they get the snow off the ground....it will take time to re-set the planes.....what a mess.....

I called United and got some guy in India telling me everything is still on time.

Even if they open tomorrow morning it will have to take them a while to get caught up.. there's something like 3000 people stuck there right now.

Looks like I will be gassing up the GMC and driving tonight.. Mapquest says its only a 14 hour drive, that's 12hrs in reality.

the drive is pretty much "as the crow flies" for 956 miles on the highway 40...

I certainly don't wanna get stuck in Denver for the holidays or diverted to who-knows-where.

The Flagstaff area and Northern NM get snow/ice pretty regularly. I would check road conditions with AZ and NM DOT

I would drive if I could take a cool car (and I am sure you can). It is a cool drive. I drive to austin from time to time. Not to much traffic, cool scenery especialy when you drive threw arizona with the red rock and new mexico with the plato's. It would also be nice to have a car to drive once you are in TX.

Yea, I heard that to but it's a sorta relative statement.. could be good or just mean I will be less screwed than the guy stuck there for two days.

The said Denver MIGHT open by noon tomorrow.. well heck, my plane leaves here at 11am. What if it doesn't open.. am I diverted?

At least a really cool gas cap from Marquez show up here today.. you guys should see these.. sweet!

Personally that would be a blessing! why would you want to fly to Denver and be in that fiasco?

Ever see "planes, trains and automobiles" ?

The only part that concerns me is driving through Kingman AZ... could be a bit icy..

Think we are just gonna drive it in the morning.. drop the dogs off at the pet resort and head on out.

If we die in a blizzard then you guys need to finish my car. Race the crap out of it and then auction it off and shoot the $ to out next of kin. Bill, you're in charge :)

Steve, I just got back from the airport and they are offering refunds for people who were suppose to travel through Denver who had purchased their tickets before December 19th. You may want to try and get your money back it you haven't yet. Looks like I will not be seeing my family this X-mas :(

:woot:

Thanks.. we leave at the crack of dawn.. the United credit will go towards Hawaii tickets..

The positive road safety info might be bad news for Bill though.. I think he was already making space in his garage for my cars ;)

You are exactly right. My geography sucks sometimes as I forgot where Amarillo is in TX. Was thinking it was in the lower part of the state. Sorry.

Yea, and there's still some pieces of my Caddy's previous engine lying around just west of Williams AZ. Look out for that stuff too.
And don't forget about the Elk crossings there. Look for glowing eyeballs.
