West side of Indianapolis - 10 blocks from Indianapolis Raceway Park - and 10 miles from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Grew up here in Indy and practically lived at IMS back in the 70's when they didn't have cookie cutter race cars...
4 years in the airforce as the crew chief and inflight mechanic on a KC135 (Boeing 707) refueling tanker. Been to almost every place americans could go in the early 80's - many places you wouldn't want to go. Spend many months underground on Alert waiting for the horn to sound so we could launch our planes to refuel the B52's with nukes. Went through a ton of car magainzes and sketch pads.....
21 years in aviation working on L1011, 727, 737, 757, 767 and DC10 aircraft. Last 12 years manager of training at a major airline recently exiting bankrupcy - while many are still there. Not much fun in aviation anymore - might be time for a career change and build cars. Currently building the 65 porsche coupe with a c5 drive and suspension.
Married 15 years to a wonderfull and understanding wife who tollerates all my car and woodworking projects and tools, and more tools, and more tools.

During the day I work as a product designer/stylist for a design consultancy firm. We design consumer, medical, industrial, automotive and home/office products. Sometimes I get sick of staplers, conference phones and rack-mount bezels for servers...zzzzzzzzz.
At night I design custom cars. I'd much rather be doing this full time but having the great steady pay and benefits from the other job is tough to abandon.

I'm Jeff, born in Paul Bunyan's home town in northern Minnesota.
Been in Crystal Lake, IL and married for over 20 years. I formerly was a Pro Roadracer holding FIA, IMSA, SCCA, AMA racing licenses. I spent 26 years in machining, fabrication, stamping, manufacturing plant management mostly making automotive parts and machinery for automotive plants. I built a lot of the foundry equipment for the LS engines. I was testing the 2007 6.2L truck blocks back in late 2003. I'm a machinist, manufacturing engineer, certified ISO9000, TS16949 quality systems auditor. I've been the Chairman of the McHenry County Industrial Council and was on the Board of Directors of the McHenry County Economic Development Corporation. When corporate restructuring eliminated my job in 2004, I took my 20 plus years of building my own cars to work and put a team together to build custom cars, chassis, engines and turbo systems full time. We now have customers in Asia, Europe, Canada, and 20 states including Hawaii. Once in a while companies insist on having me do manufacturing or industrial consulting. We recently launched a new website: www.Gmachinechassis.com and coming soon: LSXengines.com

Drag racing is my first love, although the land speed stuff is getting more of my attention lately. I hope to run at Bonneville next year for the first time, a longtime goal. I have two project cars that I work on here and there while driving a little for work or customers. I have a great wife and two boys 2 and 6 to keep me going at home.

I live in Wilton, California (near Sacramento) on 5 acres. I own a shopping center maintenance company since 89 that does lighting, sweeping, steam cleaning, and all types of maintenance for commercial shopping centers. My passion is performance cars and my business allows me time to pursue that. I owned a speed shop previously and now enjoy building high performance engines/cars and efi tuning.
I have been married for almost 19 years and have two kids, an 18 year old daughter and a 16 year old son.

I'm Bill... or so they tell me. I am a national accounts rep for Vista products, a custom blind/shutter manufacturer. I've been into cars since I was a small boy running around Congressional Oldsmobile when we would go to visit my father at work. For a while I was an ASE Master Tech. then moved on to my own business selling tools. Sold off the tool business to buy a house and went to work at a lock & security wholesaler where I worked until taking my current job. I love anything that is mechanical; cars, motorcycles, boats, planes, guns, etc. I have a wonderful wife, Kristy, who indulges my mechanical addiction quite well and with great alacrity.
I forgot to mention, I was born in Maryland, raised in Wheaton, MD, and now live in Ijamsville, MD.
Shiny Side Up!

Since its been sitting for the last few years, I've been getting pressure from some of the younger guys at Air Ride to bring the car back out for the Power Tour next year. My problem is if I start "taking a few things apart to fix them"...it turns into a 1000 hour leave-no-stone-unturned refurbish job. No that I have a problem with that, but I want to do it at my own pace. I did look at it the other day [its resting comfortably in my neighbors garage]...WAY too tempting to tear into it!
Thanks for the kudos...I'll get some pix up over Christmas.

I came here from the West Coast where I'd been the Tech Editor at Popular Hot Rodding for 7.5 years. Now I've been the founding Editor of Street Thunder magazine for the last two years.
I really like it here. Now, my wife is pregnant with our first child, who should be joining us in July. Between the magazine, the house, the wife, the dogs, and the baby on the way, I'm pretty busy...but I always try to find time for my cars.
Luckily, making progress on my cars counts as 'work' most of the time...which totally rules...

My name is Mick McMahan. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am an independant Financial Advisor. Stocks, bonds and financial planning, helping people meet their goal of retirement or living thru retirement without going broke is my day to day life. I specialize in 401(k) and IRA rollovers (and start up plans) for car guys. Ninety percent of my clients are car guys or bike guys, the two seem to go hand in hand.
I have owned alot of rides but my 69 Camaro with fold down rear seat, molded door panels and 4 speed with gauge console would have never been sold if I had ever laid eyes on Big Red. Dam that Big Red keeps me awake at night, but that is just the deam side.
On the reality side I am working on a 67 Chevelle, big block and 4 speed, maybe turbos or something blow thru. A black 64 Coupe de Ville is close to being driven, except for a radio. I still own a one-ton Chevy fourwheel drive truck from my days of running a major fourwheel drive shop here in Albuquerque, 454 injected, Dana 60's (both ends) 40 inch boggers.
My daily driver is a 96 Impala SS. I call it a daily driver because it has only a handful of additions, 18 Corvette wheels being the only thing visable.
I have been in to cars since before I could drive. In junior high I was sneaking Hot Rod magazine in to my classes to read. I have been going to SEMA or SCORE for the last twenty years, but the forums seem to give me the most inspiration. The guys here are a wealth of information and ideas. I often snap 400 pictures at SEMA but the projects here make me get back out in the shop and get back to work.
Hey the market just turned positive I have got to go......

Jeff here, originally from Detroit. Grew up street racing there in the 80s. Ok- I didn't grow up, I just got older. Worked at Holbrook, Roush (before his NASCAR days), McClaren doing whatever to learn. Pissed away my scholarship at Michigan, so I joined the Navy. Worked on the Small Boat units for 12 yrs, now I fly P-3C submarine hunter / surveillance aircraft (mostly surveillance these days). Been doing that for 18+yrs now, been all around, done lots-o stuff. Getting ready to retire in 2010/2011. Going back across the pond in Jan, for yet another extended stay. My 68 Firebird might make Power Tour 08/09 if I don't have to do another back-to-back-to-back-to-back deployment. This schitt is getting old!
Been involved in the aftermarket my whole life; my family is employed by a few co's, or supplies them. My little bro has my retirement job- he's a suspension guy for the factory Corvette team (Pratt & Miller).
Now living in Jacksonville, Fl, with a beautiful wife of 15 years, two kids 13/14, and too many damn projects.

Yes, it is a pretty fun job. I've been able to learn a lot about injection molding, die casting, and deep drawing of Aluminum. We do a lot of engineering "under the hood" that very few people get to see. We primarily use Unigraphics to design our products. Since our Industrial Designers work in Alias, UG is one of the best tools to design from their surfaces.
wiedemab-

My wife graduated from Purdue with a BSEE and grew up in Cincy. How do you like Xavier, I've heard some good things about the school?
wiedemab
12-22-2006, 07:47 PM
So far I like Xavier. With the exception of one of the Professors they have all been great. Business school is a whole lot different than engineering school, but I'm adjusting. I'm in an On-Site Program that meets 2 days a week for 4hrs each time. It's a cohort program so the same 33 of us will have to see each other every Monday and Wednesday for the whole 22 months. I like the fact that we get to know each other though.
Go Boilers! I've got a lot of respect for EE's. ME's had to take 1 EE class with a lab. It sucked! The next semester they taught us the Laplace Transform, which would have made EE201 soooooo much easier. I haven't been back to the campus in about 2 years and from what I hear, I wouldn't recognize it. I'm hoping to make a trip up this year for Grand Prix!

My name is John, I'm 48 and live and work in Orange County, NY. yeah, not too far from the chopper guys with my GF and her 12 year old triplet girls.
I spent almost 10 years in the Navy as an avionics tech, married a kalifornia gir and moved to there in 85. Worked for an FAA repair station down the road from the oakland airport for a few years , then to her hometown (Fresno) to work for a major regional airline as a development engineer. I left the aircraft industry and moved into the industrial maintenance field and earned a BS in Industrial Engineering. I have two kids from that marriage, my Son is 23 and going nowhere and my daughter is 18 and going into her second year at Fresno State university.
I currently work as a Regional Engineering Manager overseeing 4 Industrial Irradiation Facilities.

Scott:
I have kids through marriage that are grow. (I took the easy way out) Anyway, I have heard over and over that kids as young as 15 are getting some, shall we say alterations, that would have been considered crazy when I was in school.
Can you verify this one way or the other, and give examples of what procedures, the age, demographic background etc.?
I have poop pooped these claims from people I know with younger kids, because they didn't have the background to really know one way or the other.
Thanks,
Ty

I'm from Lemont, Illinois, the southwestern suburbs of Chicago (about 20 miles). I sell printing. If you go into a McDonald's or Borders Books and look at all the signs in there that's what I print. Those are my two biggest clients.

Well I'm 31 and I own Ironworks Speed & Kustom. I have been in business full time for a little over 6 years. I'm currently working to make it fun again. We have a few big time projects going in the shop and The next year or so should be really good for us. I have lived in Bakersfield, Ca most of my life. In the past I have fixed everything from oil field equipment to farm tractors to Light duty fabrication. Which lead me to opening my shop. And now I own a bunch of cars, that I never get to work on, So I'm selling all but my 36 ford 3 window with a 270 hemi with hilborn injection and my 67 chevelle, which you guys will here about really soon.

I'm really jealous right now. I make headlights for hondas. An engineer for new production equipment. Most of the time pretty cool projects, but not nearly as cool as having a hot rod shop.
