I recently bought a 68 Camaro and it has a newer steering box already on it.
It's a Saginaw unit with the following casting numbers/letters:
26000525 Z 309 on top of the unit and 25 is cast into the bottom. I believe it's a 2.25 quick ratio unit. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks,

Daniel

Factory ID will be a two letter ink stamp on the aluminum top plate, & the end plug. There might be a date code on top, but it won't tell you the ratio. The casting number is a later box, but won't ID the box either.

put your wheels straight --- turn the steering wheel one complete turn..... measure the angle in degrees that the wheels moved.... divide that number into the 360* you turned the steering wheel. That is your ratio.

Example: 360* / 30* = 11:1

The above math was just grabbed out of the air --- common steering ratio will be somewhere in the 14:1 to 20:1 area

Thanks for the info guys.

I'll try the method Greg mentioned and see what I get.
