Steve, if I'm not mistaken I thought you had some buttery soft killer seats going in this build although the Corbeau's don't look too bad either.
Let me guess.....you're saving those for another F body build?

Marty ... BIG thank you,... Im just super happy that there is a site (Lateral G) with guys like you that appreciate this type of build and the amount of work that goes into something like this. Sure is nice when it all comes together like you imagined
And oh yes Simon ... I do have those wicked seats that are going into the next FJ build ... not an F body build LOL

So very much love how this turned out!! Well done...

What is the opening between driver's door and front fender and will it stay open or is there going to be a cover for it?

Gee thanks Greg !! .... :catfight:

Ya right Wayne, I have no doubt that yours will be awesome !

Lance those are the kick panel vents (original feet 'air conditioning') and yes I'm going to bond the panels back on, still LOTS of little stuff to do to wrap this thing up

So like ALL seriously modded vehicles we've run in a significant snag (again), the roll up window cranks run right into the new custom roll bar. DOH !! :confused59:

So ... just ordered up a pretty nice universal Electric Life powered window kit, with the GM short spline power crank handle switches. This should be fun as I do not believe anyone has ever tried this conversion yet.

Also, whats so funny is the fact that in the pictures the wheels/tires look like a normal size when in fact they are 35" tall !!

Thank you Larry ... on this one with the Aqualu aluminum tubs I am not going with rear flares ... and if you saw it in person I think you would agree. My next one the 66' .. this will have the flares

Nice! power windows. I used to hope I could get power out of the engine lol
Do you know what I learned the first winter with my FJ tell you passenger to NOT kick the vent oper just before you go through a 3' flood over the road. But then again she will never it that again!

Sheck44
09-07-2018, 03:19 AM
Lol Wayne ... totally, I think those things are so funny, yet totally useful if you had NO AC !

So, finally fanned up a cold air box for the LS ... next some satin black paint and some powder coating for the lid, and yes proper button head bolts

Hey Marty ... so I am 6-2" and have tons of clearance to the roll bar ... that said, if this thing where to be ever taken off road you'd absolutely want to pad her up.

Jeff ... Thats the Hydrotech system from Jim, we worked together on getting the mounting perfect for a stock 40. The PSC reservoir is for the brakes and the Chase bays tank is the rad overflow

Ok., just because we had too ...and because I do not believe that anyone else has done it, we actually pulled off (proper) electric power windows in an FJ40

2 days of planning, and fabrication, this was VERY hard, and actually 'almost' impossible but we pulled it off.

Thanks Joe !

Jeff ... we were this close to going with the same, (SPAL system) but after talking to some folks that sold them they said if the windows or the cranking systems are sticky then they would be very slow and would eventually break. We took a chance and ordered up the Electric Life universal flat glass kit and somehow got it to fit. BUT, not without serious modification to the kit itself and to some of the interior door panel.

Had to cut open a section along the base of the door to house the motor and the lower portion of the track, then Fabbed up some enclosures that will get powder coated or covered ... yet to be determined

Cheers

In my opinion you NAILED the ratio of lift and tire size...it's stance is PERFECT!

Love all the black trim against the grey base paint color also. Very tastefully done...

How's it drive? NVH way better than stock? I know it's got great power, how's the handling\street manners?

Only thing that maybe looks a little out of place to me is the soft top. I LOVE the look of these with the smooth hard top but I also get the desire to be able to easily take the soft top off. I kind of want to see it with the top off to really get a feel for it.

Lance ... Let me drive her for a few more days and get you some feedback on the driving characteristics. The first thing I need to do is reduce the tire pressure, ride is a bit harsh and this will help a LOT.
As far as the soft top, I totally agree the hard tops do look better and 'finished', BUT as you said, soft top is the best of 2 worlds, I am really looking to rolling up all the windows and taking her for a cruise tomorrow as its going into the 70's.

Isn't there like a huge loss just based on the tread of those tires as well? seems like I've heard that before, that off road type tires don't transmit power to dyno wheels very efficiently.

Still, with as light as that rig is, I'm sure it's got PLENTY of power...

How many miles on it so far?

Amazing build.
Mr. Ward should be thankful you do this for pleasure and not business

Peter ... welcome to the forum !! (and thank you btw)
You'll love it here, anything goes and the folks here are just awesome.

So Lance yes, according to my tuner the believes this motor is in the range of 450 so we are looking at a 150tq-170hp loss range.
I have to say it though, this has to be one of the most fun vehicles I've ever driven. EVERYBODY does the double take, and then you realize by the questioning look on their face they are thinking WTF is that !!
Wayne, whats funny is my mom needed a small tree taken out of her front yard so I hooked up the front 10,000lb winch last week and yanked it out ! Likely the only 'action' this winch will EVER see .. LOL

Cant wait to get her in the March show with FJ#2

Cheers
Steve

1966 FJ40 originally from Alaska ... thus NO rust
Stripped down to bare steel and epoxied

I know it's weird but those split lower rear doors was one of the thing I liked most on my 72 FJ. This is in in amazing shape. More fun for me to watch.

You know Steve I would like to sit back and come up with a comment that would describe this build to a T. But with everyone's comment, I can't think of anything that would just be over the top. I believe everyone has just about named everything in your build. I my self think it is amazing! Just as all your builds are. You are truly a very talented man with a good eye for detail.

All I can say.. Very good job and keep coming up with something else to build and keep all of us happy watching.

Wayne, me too ... I love the clamshell rear doors, just found the proper rear gas struts to keep them up too

Looks Like I'm bringing a 1970 SS Chevelle to the show in 2020, so there goes the 70' Bronco, 65/66 Moostang ... LMAO

Carl, geez buddy .. I dont even know how to respond to that but to say THANK YOU. Obviously I build these for my love of doing them, but I also do these for all you guys that need some inspiration and ideas.
I am completely humbled by the 'true' professionals like DSE and the RS but who isn't. I just like to show what can be done by a simple guy with a little extra cash$ with big ideas and limited resources .. so again thank you, and that goes for all you guys that follow my insanity

Thanks for that John, Lance ... I tried to find info on that truck but found nothing
Looks like a TLC but I'm not certain. Any idea Lance ?

Cheers
