I have only 1,000 miles on a new t56 that I purchased from Hurst Drivelines I installed on my '68 Camaro. I don't drive it hard and most miles have been at freeway speeds. Last week I noticed the shifter was starting to become really loose and doesn't take much effort to pull it out of gear. It engages the same and doesn't slip out of gear, just feels like its heading that way. Anyone have any idea what could have happened to it?

thanks for your help!

Check the two bolts holding the stick to the stub shaft.

Other than that, sounds like it is broke in and ready to go.

Donny,
Thanks I feel like an idiot... sure enough bottom bolt loosened up allowing the shifter to move 3/4" front to back. I assumed the worst since this is my second t56, and before the transmission shop bought back the first one from me after 2 failed fixes, it had a similar sloppy shift to the point that it wouldn't center between 3rd&4th.

Lock washers and torqued... wish everything could be that easy.

I wouldn't have know if I hadn't been there before.

Glad it was simple.

Yep, happened to me too. Slathered those bolts in threadlocker and it was all good. Lots of vibration in that joint.
