I need to rework the fender lip on the front fenders and inner fender of my 69 firebird for more clearance when the wheel is at full lock with my Ride Tech front suspension and stock sub. The car is still in primer, so I am planning on doing some cutting and welding. Looking for pointers before I start. Thanks!

Here is a link over at ProTouring.

This has some photos from the 48 hour Camaro. I am not finished with mine but I have trimmed the lip and rolled the edges. You definitely won't be able to reuse the chrome trim but I don't want to.

Also here is a pretty good build over at Ls1tech

There are probably others but these give you the idea. I think Dutch Boys posted some fender mod photos on one of their project cars that showed how the inner fender was raised, squared off and modified to clip into the trimmed and rolled lip. I could not find that photo.

Good luck !

One more this is what Rod Prouty did. He admitted it was an interim solution but gives you an idea of the scope.

Thanks for the leads. I have a little over 1/4" clearance at the lip when the wheels are at full lock (at the front and rear of the tire edges), and 3/8" at the center when the wheels are straight. I haven't done anything yet to the lips, the fenders are set, castor is at Ride Tech recommended slug in A-arm, and camber is just under 2 degrees negative. How much clearance is needed to accommodate for body roll, suspension movement, tire roll over, etc?

The best way to check is remove your springs from your shocks, disconnect your swaybar and cycle the suspension. Then you will know for sure how much clearance you have, or how bad it will rub. *some running is ok as long as it is not on a sharp edge or will try to get pulled in by the tire.
