I have a part that I've made and I'd like to have it scanned to be cleaned up, straightened up and a mirrored version made as well so that I can make a mold for it to make the parts out of carbon fiber. Anyone know anything about this stuff? Any ideas on how much it costs?
Pics for reference of what I'm wanting copied. They are for my tail lamps

Do a goggle search for rapid prototyping on the internet and you will come up with all sorts of links. There is a good chance that you may find someone in your area. This is a pretty hot topic in the manufacturing industry.

I googled it before I posted but didn't see what I was looking for. I tried again but searched local and found a place and emailed them. Either way it looks like it's going to be cost prohibitive for me.

Where's that Greg Weld guy when you need him? He has a son in the CF business.

That's awesome. I messaged a few of the people on there to see what they say. Thanks for the link.

Check out Shapeways - I have an order in with them currently and their prices are low!

Are you going to want to make negative mold or is your plan to mold the carbon over the positive buck, like the part you currently have? If you want i actually do freelance reverse engineering and design work and would be more than happy to take a look at it. I would be able to do exactly what you want short of machining the molds (or bucks), but i could get you complete, cleaned up, and straight 3D models and prints ready to be machined or printed.

I've done a lot of projects like that. On a piece like that its pretty simple and easy.
I've done a few projects for some shops here on this board.
If your looking for someone to do the CF work I'd hit up GW's son Alex.

We can talk about the project. I can most help you all the way through including the carbon parts.

Thanks guys. I have a company here in town thats working on this for me. He's had some issues with it lifting on one of the corners when it prints though, so I'm supposed to go talk to him Tuesday to see if I need to find someone else to print them or what.
