On the way home from our honeymoon at Chevell-abration, my wife told me she wanted an early Chevelle wagon. She started searching online, and found this one. We found someone local to look at it and give us his opinion of the car, and it sounded just like what we wanted.

On thursday we made a banzai run down to Kearney Nebraska to pick up her new '66 Malibu station wagon.

The body was pretty solid, and the little rust in the quarters was cut out and fixed correctly. The floors have some holes, and the spare tire well is rotted out, but the frame, braces, jambs, doors, and all the structure is very solid. The paint is shiny and pretty straight, but by no means is it a show-winning paint job. It is 2-toned turquoise and green. The lower (turquoise) is the original color, and the dark green is also a '66 chevelle color. There are some graphics on the quarters that will be removed when I have time to do a little body & paint work. I bought it without those wheels, so I need to get a set of ralleys for it now.

The interior has new upholstery and bucket seats. It needs some TLC, and I'm looking for seatbelts for it, but for the most part, it's very presentable, and comfortable.

http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/data/500/medium/DSC_0067.JPGThe engine is a 454. I'm not sure what heads it has (probably peanut-port) but it has a cast iron intake with a quadra-jet. It runs great, and got 14 mpg on the way home.

It also has a powerglide that needs work, but I'll swap in a good 700R-4 I have. It's a 10-bolt, 3.08 open but I've got a posi rear I can stick in when I upgrade to a 12-bolt in my '69. I will also do 4 wheel discs next winter.

We drove it home 500 miles, and it drove great, but there's a short in the taillights somewhere, and it blew the fuse. A Team Chevelle member from that area helped work on the taillights but we never found the short, and it blew the fuse right away. We did discover a ground-issue that we suspected was the problem, but something still shorted it somewhere.

This car won't really be "pro touring" but it will just be a nice cruiser, and the brakes & suspension will be upgraded to make it a little easier to drive.

Sweet dude!

Ok story time :D In highschool a buddy of mine had one of those. As he was the oldest, and first with a car/license we were on a mission. Not having a ton of $$ and wanting a money ride a bunch of us set out to make it cool. Borrowed a spray gun and at 5am (no wind and all) in his driveway painted EVERYTHING black. We took the trim off, and did a half azz masking job but that was about it. Came out looking 100x better than we ever imagined it would. Put a set of 18" IROK wheels on it, cut the springs, and we were rollin.

For a bunch of 14-16yr old highschool kids it was an epic troop transport ride. Oh the debauchery that took place in that car :D for reference you can fit 14 people in there, and "sleep" 6 :unibrow: should the need ever arise.

sigh, those were the days :D

short story on how i tried that angle
we had dinner with my dad and brother yesterday evening....talking about what we drive and how we needed more room since we have the baby on the way and my step sons 3 and 5 in a honda civic 4 door...
we also have a jeep grand cherokee which i usually drive ...i said you can drive the cherokee, ill sell your honda and ill buy a wagon......
we get in the car to leave and i noticed she wasnt real happy....she said ..im tired of hearing about the old wagon ....i dont want a wagon.
so dont think its gonna work....oh well.. i tried

i even threw in the story of you and your wife getting her a wagon......

My wife hated wagons too, until she started borrowing my '95 occasionally to haul stuff that wouldn't fit in her Bonneville. It seems every time she took it, someone would compliment her on the car  She'd always bring it back, and say something like "the guy at the store liked your car". Believe it or not, women like compliments and attention

Derek, you left out one important part.... the parts migration theory. :DAh, yes! I can no longer get in trouble for buying Chevelle parts :unibrow:

"I'm sorry honey, I had to order new 17" Budniks for my Chevelle so I could give you these 15" Torq-Thrusts for your birthday"

"I'm concerned about your safety, therefore I needed to buy those 13" C5 brakes for my Chevelle, so I could put the 11" discs from my car on your wagon"

I really know how to please a woman

Derek, I think you are living all of our fantasies. 1st, your new fiance' is ok with a honeymoon at a car show. She loves Chevelles. Now owns a Chevelle. And is receptive of you buying parts for both of your Chevelles. DAMN LUCKY.

Are you and your new bride willing to adopt a 46 year old kid with a ferocious car habit?

Man she is cool, her future is in giving seminars to young brides concerning the love of the car hobby. She could make a fortune!!

Derek, I think you are living all of our fantasies. We're far too poor, and have way too small of a garage to be doing that. She starts her new job as an RN next week, so she can be my sugar-momma once those paychecks start coming in. :unibrow:

Are you and your new bride willing to adopt a 46 year old kid with a ferocious car habit? How are your garage-building skills? This little 22'x24' 2-stall just isn't cutting it anymore, can your stuff sit outside? ;)
