67' Camaro "Blue Demon" Upgrade!

I've already "finished" the restoration on my 67' and I've been driving it for a few years now. To bring everyone up to speed, I bought the car when I was 15, learned to drive in it, and drove it to high school. When I was 17 I started a full frame off restoration of the car. That took about 7 years and I've been driving it for a few years now. One area the car was lacking in was the rear suspension. During the restoration process I had already done all new wheel tubs, trunk pan and quarters and bought a new rear and springs and shocks. Only a few months later DSE released their mini tubs and Quadralink. I opted to not spend more money at the time and redo all the work that was just completed. Once I got to the front end I went with the DSE subframe so the rear has been lacking ever since. So.... The car is currently undergoing an upgrade. DSE mini tubs, Narrowed Moser 9", Quadralink. DSE subframe connectors, new wheels and a new exhaust system. Here is what the car looked like before the upgrade started..

I went with HRE wheels for the upgrade and wrapped them in Michelin rubber. These are by far the highest quality wheel I've ever seen. These are Satin Charcoal Centers with Polished Lips. Rears are 18"x11" and fronts are 18"x9".

Thanks guys! Appreciate it. The primer 69' is my dads current project car. And the Blue on mine is a custom mix color I had made up just for my car.

All the welding on the car is done, we threw the wheels on and brought the car home. I'll be tearing the rear back out to run all new brakes lines and a list of other mods. Here's some pics of the car with the wheels. None of the suspension is final adjusted so don't mind the stance! lol

That's a nice car you have. Color is very complimentary to the shape. Like the new wheels, I hope they didn't set you back as much as I think they may have. My optometrist's runs them on his BMWs and I think they are sharp. But he's told me that they are pricey. So I'll go lower budget for mine.

HRE's are pricey, but you get what you pay for.

As for drivetrain in my car, I'm currently running a built up 350 motor. Plans for a fuel injected LS motor are in the future, after I recover from this round of upgrades. lol. I'm running a blow-proof bell housing with a Centerforce clutch, transmission is a Tremec TKO600 5-speed and the rear is a narrowed Moser 9" with 3:89 gears. Of coarse the rear suspension is now a Detroit Speed Quadralink with adjustable coilovers. Front suspension is the Detroit Speed Hydroformed subframe with tubular A-Arms, C6 vette spindles and adjustable coilovers.

Thanks Guys! Pulled the rear back out to run all my brake lines. Since I switched from leaf springs to the Quadralink I need to re-route the lines on the body and make new ones for the new narrowed rear. Body lines are done and rear is ready to go! Went with some rock guard on the rear lines for added protection.

I got some work done in my trunk area this weekend. The hole in the middle of the trunk is one of Detroit Speeds new products, their Fuel Pump Access Door Kit. The Fuel Pump Access Door kit allows a bolt on cover to be located above the fuel pump so the fuel tank does not have to be removed to change or service the fuel pump. This is definitely a nice feature if you've ever had an issue with your fuel system, which I have. Also I mounted a Fuel & Differential Vent in the trunk. I went with II Much Fabrication vents which I also got through DSE. The II Much Fuel Vent helps eliminate fuel spills and odors and the diff vent will help with running at the track and pushing oil out of the rear. These vents are extremely nice quality and easy to mount. I just used a hole saw the exact size I needed. It's an easy upgrade. Once I had those mocked up I re mounted and re wired my stereo equipment which is a 500 watt Polk amp which I'm running to all Polk Momo speakers. It's getting there! Hopefully get the rear back in this week.

For brake lines I'm running 3/16" NiCopp (seamless copper/nickel) lines. They are nice and soft which makes them easy to bend and flair and they seal up good. Also they never rust. I got the line in a 25' foot roll I believe. It came from Jeggs, part #635800

I'm running Stainless Rockguard, Line Clamps and Fittings which I sourced through Inline Tube. Obviously the rockguard length and fitting sizes will depend on your specific application. Check them out @ inlinetube.com or you can call them at 586-532-1338.

Spent the last couple days in the garage working on getting the rear back in the car, getting everything centered, setting ride height and hooking up the brake lines and drive shaft. Began mounting the rear sway bar but its not finished yet. So for now here's a couple photos from the garage...

Well it's been a little while since I posted with an update. Had a few set backs and I've been crazy busy lately, but the car is back together and on the street. Remember I already had the DSE Hydroformed frame...

I also eliminated the wheel well trim. I think it gives it a cleaner look with this setup.

It looks lower in the pic than what it really is. But it is a tad on the low side. Just gotta watch the big stuff on the road. I love the side exit too. I think it gives it an old school road race look. Sounds awesome too 👍

Fitment of the Small Block to the DSE frame is perfect. No issues what so ever. Same goes if you're running an LS platform. We have a 69' setup with a DSE frame and an LS7, everything fits perfect. I'm running "Dougs" headers and I had to dent one of my header tubes to make clearance for the steering shaft, which was no big deal. My clutch is manual so I'm running the Zbar setup off the frame. Works great. I've been running the front subframe for about 4 years now and have nothing but good things to say about it. The rear setup went together perfect, was easy to adjust and is driving great. Detroit Speed makes the best products on the market. Their stuff fits, its high quality, and it does what its advertised to do.

I'd like to change out the hood for an aluminum cowl hood... Just kindof over the stinger hood. Also I have a custom aluminum spoiler I'd like to get fit up and painted at the same time as the hood. After that, probably a year or two down the road, an LS motor will be in the works.:idea:

Sorry for the delayed response... I got the hood about 10 years ago from www.americanstreetrod.com or try www.americansportscar.com... They have 2 sites. I don't remember it being extremely hard to match up, however it was fit with the sheet metal when all the body work was done. A problem with fiberglass (that I was unaware of when buying) is that it moves or changes shape after a period of time. The hood does not fit correctly anymore and I would never run a fiberglass hood again, but that's my opinion. I would like to change to an aluminum hood in the future, which will just be a cowl hood.

Dads car is basically sitting idle right now. Waiting for a spot to open up at the shop to get some more fab work done. It's currently a rolling body (no front sheet metal) with a DSE hydroformed subframe and Quadralink, Forgeline wheels, a Mast Motorsports LS7, SS700 trans and a narrowed Moser 9". I'll try and get him to start a build thread once he starts working on it again!
