I hadn't yet taken the time to revue Porsche's latest supercar. Until I watched the Nurburgring Video where it placed third on the Top 100 list with 6:57:00 behind two Radicals.....and then I remembered wait a minute this car is tagged as a "Hybrid"!

The Primer:

The skeleton:

Challenging traditional exhaust paradigms:

http://special.porsche.com/microsite/918/assets/images/layers/slides/slide-2.2.1.jpg

Awesome engineering IMO.

The 918 microsite: http://550.porsche.com/microsite/918/usa.aspx?ws=1#chapter-electricdrive

Then there is the Weissach package to step it up a notch. http://550.porsche.com/microsite/918/usa.aspx?ws=1#chapter-weissach

I found it interesting that they use a vinyl wrap vs paint to save additional weight. That says something about the future in my eyes.

Its something else isn't it? Their engineer's are probably some of the best in the world.

On a related note, bout 10 -15 years ago i read an article/comment by a reader in Car & Driver on why and how the Japanese and German's are kicking are a$$ at building cars. One word (acrynim) NATO. Our brightest engineers go where the monies at, the military, Germany and Japan cant. So their brightest go where the monies at,, Automotive and transportation.
I completely agree with the author.

For just under a million, Greg this would justify having to purchase the bigger shop, over in town...
Just sayin...:underchair:

I'm guessing we know someone that would offer reasonable storage close to the tracks.

A friend of mine has one on Order. 2 Years ago when they 1st started taking orders, if you ordered a 918, you could buy a New Matching 911 Turbo with a Matching VIN (one number different, 8-1) to tide you over for 2 years til you got the Supercar

I changed mine to CHARLEY -- drove to Boise and ordered one. He's going to love it.

Since we were so slow and apparently at the bottom of Porsches important customer list.... Charley was allowed to order a 2016 model - which claims a better power to weight ratio.... so think of it as an upgrade!

What do you guys think?

I know he LOVES yellow... so this is a special order paint combo.

Since Jackass is already taken... maybe this one should be named Ass-jacked?

John --

There were TWO of the TEN 918's that are in North America, here in Sun Valley for the SV Road Rally. Porsche was putting VIP potential customers in one for a ride...

The one had the 63K paint job -- I was NOT a fan -- but that's personal preference so doesn't really count. The silver version they had inside for look sees was far prettier.

The paint seemed "no big deal" compared to the 107K "destination charge that was added to the window sticker of a brand new Bugatti shipped in for the event.
